Octavia MK2 FL fitting Hids whats the final verdict

Featured Replies

I know its been discussed to death on the forum and I have searched a lot. But i just wanted to get the final answer on what need to be done fitting hids in the projector headlight.

Do i need relays?

Or just diodes?

Or just coding?

on the coding front i have access to vcds and dont have the setting for xenons without shutter or cold checking of dipped beam.

what bits need setting and can they be set with vcds?

Thanks for any help.

It depends on the quality of your xenon ballasts. For example, OEM ballasts only need coding.

Got a VCDS autoscan to see what modules your car has?

There isn't a definitive answer. There are too many variations. For what its worth mine has done 65k miles with a London colour kit with absolutely no problems. All I did was have it coded.

However, that said many have reported damaged BCMs. I can only assume the BCM differs depending on model variant or the people with problems had install issues or coding issues and caused damage that way.

Relays are a dangerous load for a BCM without a diode, so therefore by adding just a relay you are just swapping one dangerous load for another one. Some automotive relays have diodes built in and they will save the relay from damaging the BCM. Relay without a diode will damage any electronic device driving it. Tread carefully, I can only report my experience

Thanks for the info. I might just give it a go but need info on coding.

That BCM certainly supports OEM xenons but it's down to the quality of the ballasts you're using to whether you'll have issues.

To stop the bulb warning  I'm pretty sure it's byte 14, bit 4 (not bit 3). Use at your own risk and you should also update your VCDS software :)
