Engine oil, which is best for my car?

Hi, thanks for the replies.

I am about 8 weeks into owning the car, it had a service so the oil is very clean so I am struggling to get an ideal reading, my drive isn't flat either so doesn't help. It looks to be fine but when pulling the dipstick back out after cleaning it and reinserting it the reading seems to smear coming back out which is frustrating!

Good that the oil is so clean then.

Maybe just dip when you get someplace, a filling station will do.  3 or 4 minutes after stopping, maybe once your fuel is in.

Nice Super Unleaded 97 or 99 ron.    you should see the oil is near the top of the crosshatch even when brand new oil in.

Do not stress on it.

Have fun.

Been using Tesco/Sainsburys Super unleaded 99 ron but going to try Shell Vpower for a while as I am paranoid about a few things. Had a misfire on cylinder 3 and needed a new coil injector and now the turbo is making a strange clicking/catching noise but that's a different story!

I will check it asap and see what it reads, if it is still near the top I'll be happy, done about 700 miles in the last 7-8 weeks of owning it.

Sainsburry's is 97 ron minimum,

Tesco Momentum 99, Shell V-Power Nitro + & Costco Super Unleaded are 99 ron minimum.

No need for the Royal Dutch Shell secret detergents, Bore Wash is the last thing you want,

Tesco Momentum & Costco from Greenergy might be the same detergent package, but the ethanol is what your vRS will love.

(The base fuel for the Super Unleaded is all the same, Shell & Greenergy import to the same facilities.)

Be sure all 4 plugs are good,

and do not let people do trial and error fixes, if a coil is going, likely because a plug was over heating.

Thank you, Did not know that about sainsburys!

Will not use that again then, Tesco Momentum or Shell V-power but I am going to give Shell a run to see if I notice any improvement in engine smoothness. Probably not but I will give it a go!

It is OK if no 99 is available. Better than using 95 ron.

As good as ESSO, GULF, BP and the others 97 ron super unleaded.
