HALDEX PUMP

Featured Replies

Is it possible to remove the haldex pump and test it to se of it works don't want to buy a new one until I know really this 1 doesn't work so can it be tested when removed thanks

I started a similar thread yesterday with no replies yet - but I was asking how to check the system.

While googling it I saw that the Audi Haldex pump is possible to remove the pump and test it. (We should have the same system as but I'm not 100%)

Just search for VAG Haldex pump removal. I was hoping that people with Skodas might be able to provide their experience when I started my thread.

I also read that if you hook up VCDS, you can engage the pump using the software and have someone under the car listening to the pump to see if it engages or not.

I have a cheap version of VCDS where this function does not work :( so I can't test it this way but it seems like the easiest way to check... If you access to VCDS that is.

If I'm wrong and someone else knows the proper way to check please say so.

the pump should be able to be tested by applying 12 v   couple of things:--  it may cause damage if run insitu in an uncontrolled manner (over pressure ?) once out of the unit it can be checked to see if it runs -however it should not be run mutch dry and the motor running does not necessarily mean it is generating pressure,  but worth a try,  there is a you tube of someone remotely actuating the pump in order to "blow-out" the filter from the unit on a supposed --"GEN-IV"  trans------------  I understood that one doesn't have a filter,  maybe it's  a "non service related filter"   however rather than the price of a new one anythings worth a try   useful if someone can chip in who knows

correction GEN 5 doesn't have the filter-- GEN 4 has it fitted above the propshaft and that was blown out by the oil pressure or can be scewered out with a hot spike(short fat filter element/part of service kit)  the pump has to be removed to drain the oil and refill is more complex than just letting it dribble out.      It's only a guess it's the same  but the "cover" housing the magnets and back bearing can be removed whilst leaving the brushes and rotor intact and then cleaned out inspected and lubed    hope this helps keep us posted how it's going

In response to your question my 4x4 was working great in the fields but I noticed I tried to get up a grass verge

And 1 front wheel just spinning so I tried again strange as I never had a problem before so I went to some ice and again 1 wheel spinning then the esp would work I also noticed when pulling out of junctions a small Amount of wheel spin never had it before s9 again tried to get up a grass verge a steep 1 and the car just sat there 1 wheel spinning so think the 4x4 doesn't work as prior to that never span at junctions so I changed the haldex oil and cleaned the none replacement filter that was clogged up but still no 4x4 so wanted to try the pump manually ..

Cheers Cheshire I have a local car electrics guy near me maybe he can test it

best of luck,   my understanding is that on ice snow mud etc you should turn OFF the ESP first otherwise it tries to work against itself --there is a HI ?temp override somewhere in the system to save either the system or brakes but this is getting beyond my pay grade   Haldex/BORG WARNER sight may be some use

Have a read of this thread. (from experience)...

I got the bits from Haldexparts.com

It was 4 years ago though, so worth looking around.
