Rear Bump Stops

Featured Replies

Annual service turning into a grand as usual though when I complained they managed to knock 100 squid off, anyway the rear bump stops have gone and Ive told them not to do them so I can afford to eat, so my question is please are they an MOT failure, and how difficult are they to fit, skoda dealer want 109 per side fitted, bump stops on ebay seem to be 15-25, help would be appreciated please.

I've changed mine on fabia, just need the right tools and plenty of patients, there must be a link on here too. When I changed mine I needed new shocks, top mounts too.

They can be an MOT advisory for sure. Perhaps even a failure. Dealers are over zealous even the slightest crack they list it. If it's split in 2 that's when it's in failure territory maybe.  They are common on VAG cars I have/had. Had mine done by Techie and had the rear shocks done at the same time. Used to replace them myself on my Golf3, went through about 3/4 sets over 189k.

You say "At last", but to be fair, it has been there for two and a half years............No offence intended.

It is unfortunate for us Mike has called it a day.

Were they the round ones Paul, or the oval ones (ref mike's linked post / no 2).

I purchased the round type as my car is on a 56 plate

Not an MOT fail. Can be advised.

Advisory - Yup. The bottoms of mine have perished (the metal ring rattled around on the shaft of the damper until the garage cut it off) but as they still perform their function - to stop the suspension from bottoming out - then in the MOT tester's eyes they are still fit for purpose.

If anyone is looking at purchasing some of these the one other difference i noticed from the sellers information regarding round or oval ones was if the car had sports suspension, or not.

My car passed its MOT last month & I was informed that the off-side bump stop needed replacing, but it's not an MOT failure. I've been quoted £72 for the job at a Skoda dealership, although the one the near side cost me over £105 a year or so ago at the same dealership. Can't afford it yet.
