Would not start & getting "SAFE" message

Featured Replies

Hi,

I came out of the Cinema last night and tried to start my superb(1.8T) and the following happened:

1. engine didn't turn over

2. message came up on radio & info center saying "SAFE"

3. all doors except the drivers door locked themselves.

tried many time turning on/off alarm no joy. went for a coffee while waiting for the AA .After approx 10 minutes I decided to give it another try and quess what it started.

this is the 2nd time this has happened to me in the last 3-4 months: Anybody got an Idea of whats causing this ?. Its booked into the Garage later in the week but I would appreciate your views/idea's in advance

thanks in advance

"SAFE" on radio normally means the permanent live feed has been disconnected and you have to put your radio code back in (its an anti-theft measure). My guess is you ahve a dodgy battery or dodgy e;ectrical connection that is causing you to loose power.

What he said, but have a close look at the earth connections in particular.

Hi Peterco and Rongagin,

Thanks for your tips I've just checked the battery connection and both terminal connections are tight have no corrosion. I've also checked all fuses and they again were tight.

keep the tips coming thanks once again.

sounds like battery for sure, you need to use a discharge tester, Halfords will do this for free.

Let your dealer have a look. They should have some new info on Superbs getting flat batteries.

I had this happen on my old Leon one night, it turned out to be the battery plus a loose connection.

As well as checking the battery terminals, pay attention to where the negative cable is connected to the cars body.

just a quick update to let you all know that upon testing the battery was found to below spec. The garage are now changing it.

thanks once again..
