Mk2 to MK3

Featured Replies

My 2014 2 litre diesel S estate has 185 k on it and it's running fine, shall I dump it now and get a mk3 or trust to providence? Its got full service history, new cambelt etc  and has just had 4 new tyres

I'd wait until the facelift is released at the end of the year or beginnong of next. Should be substantially increased discounts available on pre facelift models both new and used.

Your car is in tip top form by the sounds of it. Dealer wont give you extra for the tyres, cambelt and servicing, so get some more use out of it. At 185k only taxi drivers will be interested.

In the meantime arrange a few 3 day test drives (if skoda still do them) to check out different engines etc.

If you need to ask then you don't need the S3 yet

As x man has said it looks in good working order for now. However, I wouldn't worry too much about facelifts. They seem to come along all too frequently these days. For example, by the time the beginning of 2019 arrives no doubt people will be speculating about the hybrid or fully electric Superb . You have to buy what is in front of you until or unless the detail of any facelift is announced; you might wait only to find that you dont like the facelift version.

The year change production weeks for Skoda seem to be around week 22 and week 46 each year. (28th May and  Nov 5th in 2018) so you could judge your purchase around those dates if you wanted to have the latest version at the time you purchase.

Facelifts really are comedy sometimes. Been reading an Auto Express piece about the impending facelift of the Fabia, which amounts to new headlights and ‘state of the art tech’. What is the ‘state of the art tech’? A revised infotainment system...

If you’re thinking of buying a Superb just buy it.

Looking on the likes of drive the deal there are substantial discounts at the moment, very tempting as I'm not fussed about facelift as I'll be doing lots of miles with work

I had the exact same dilemma at the back end of last year. My decision was based on my circumstances. High mileage and a need for complete reliability (in my work if I don't turn up I don't get paid) meant I went for an SIII. If I'd been doing fewer miles or didn't mind it being off the road occasionally, I'd have kept the SII.

I used to be undecided now I'm not so sure  ;-)

Its been a long time since I last commented on here... about 6 years!!!

Feel like I've been stalking you all for the past couple of weeks :-)

But currently have a Mk2 Superb Estate 2.0TDI 170ps Elegance - 6speed manual with a couple of extras - Amethyst Metallic, heated windscreen, spare wheel & can't remember the others but only a couple of things.

Its now just over 7 years old & has merely 58500mls...  and I've signed on the dotted line & getting a new one.... Tomorrow :D

what  do you guys reckon I should get for it?  got to put it in Autotrader tonight... intending to put on @ £7k  (anyone looking for one?)

but I wondering is it really worth it?  I know I'm going to love the new one but still have to sell this one (doing it privately) and wondering is it worth it??? :crying:

Ok new one only ordered a few weeks ago - it was in stock, Metallic Black L&K 2.0TSI 220ps with a load of extras including 19 inch alloys (which I don't really want but I'm sure I'll live with it) B) & rear camera, lane assist, heated wheel with flappy paddles and wireless charging.... etc.

got a decent deal but found the odd thread where others have got the 280 L&K for very good prices!

thinking of the throttle tuning race chip already... will I want it??  anything else that I might want to add - or change / re-programme?

feeling mixed... happy but sad... but its done!!

Will no doubt be posting more often in the coming days, weeks, months - feels good to be back (& not just stalking now... :D)

A dealer will be asking about £7000. Private sale I would hope for about £6000. PX probably £5500. That is with a full history, lower if its missing.

Forget about the extras, only worth pence. Condition and history are the important things on a 7 year old motor.

Always remember a used car is never worth what you think it is. Its only worth what someone is willing to pay.

I got just over £6k for my 2013 SII SE+ 140 with 62k miles on it and full dealer history from new. That was trade-in against an SIII L&K. It's on their site now for just under £8k, but they are offering a warranty and breakdown cover. As Skidpan says, for private sale it is only worth what someone will pay - £7k doesn't sound like a bad start point, but you may need to come down on price or wait a bit to get your price, depending on how broke everyone is after xmas.

PS: Enjoy the new car!

Hi Skidpan & BriskodJeff,

cheers for the comments - a few months ago I thought I'll get £7k easy but now I reckon if I get more than £6250 I should be happy.

Just sold the other car last week - a 5 year old Fabia 1.2i 12v SE with 31500 mls & got £4250 for it, seems bonkers that there is only £2k in it and what you get more for its is unreal.  But yup everyone wants small cars....

Except of course... all of us on here :-)

Picked up the new one yesterday evening, its nice, feels so solid on the road and even after only a few miles to me it feels smaller / than the Mk2 - I guess it handles better.

Smooth progressive acceleration but I'm sure it will impress more over the coming weeks.

ACC, Lane assist take a bit of getting used to... it impressed the kids with its ability to self park (not sure I was too keen)!!

lets see how it beds in I'll get some photo's when I see it in the day light.  Did take a few at the dealers, here you go...
