Thinking of changing to a Karoq

Featured Replies

I've copied and pasted my question on the Karoq section here.

I currently have a superb estate. It's been a great car. Pleasure to drive. I needed such a large car because my work entailed carrying very long items around.

I retired three years ago and no longer need such a big vehicle. At 70 I sometimes have a little difficulty fitting into small spaces but the parking sensors are a great help. Also being short of leg and fat of gut, the drivers seat memory settings are pretty usefull.

Recentlly when I had a little Fiesta as a courtesy car following a smashed window and theft I was quite taken with it and considered getting one. Once I looked into the finances I realised it was a no go. A two year old Fiesta was 10k and they would only give me 6k for mine. So I would end up with a worse car and be 4K lighter. Also I know the first time I had to shift something bulky or do on a long trip I'd regret it.

so I stayed as I was. BTw I only do about 5k miles pa and tend to keep my cars until forced to replace them.

I have Seen the Karoq and am quite taken with it.

what do people who have bought one think of them.

The most obvious difference is likely to be comfort, however the Superb is set-up for mile munching. At 5,000 miles per annum I'm guessing comfort isn't especially high up your priority list.

Second is cabin space. If you're regularly carrying rear seat passengers and / or bulky items then this is where the Superb excels. Since you've retired and no longer have as much use for the space then I'm also guessing this benefit is of reduced benefit.

As great as the MkII Superb is things have moved on, the Karoq is likely to feel just as plush inside as a 7 year old Superb.

Could the extra ride height be of benefit when getting in and out? As you've noticed it's more compact dimensions will make it easier to live with day-to-day and make it easier to survey your surroundings.

However if the financial analysis you did for the Fiesta made changing your car a no-go then the Karoq won't be anymore attractive financially, the cost to change will be quite a bit more expensive.

Thanks silver for that excellent reply

yes the high up ride position would be nice.

i've never bought a new car in my life apart from when my brother worked at BL/ Rover etc and I had a metro and a mg maestro.

I normaly buy a two year old car and keep it about 10 years.

I can see me keeping my superb till either it or me cash in our chips.

we have another car, a little Renault Clio which SWMBO. Toddles around in.

It's on a bit so maybe we will change that for the Karoq. We have the money to buy one out right if we wish. It's just a question of deciding what we want to spend it on. We'd wait till they come on to the second hand market in any event.

I drove a Karoq recently and I have to say I was quite impressed with it.  Okay, it is not quite up there with the latest Superb but as Silver1011 says, it wouldn't be too far off an older Superb inside.  I thought the ride quality was very good and I wouldn't find it a huge step back if I was coming from an older Superb.  Although I am not a fan of SUV-type cars (I know I'm on a minority these days!) the extra height would certainly make it more accessible and it is much easier to park.  There is a noticeable difference in length between the two cars.  Given your mileage, one of the petrol engines mated to a nice 7 speed DSG would be very nice in the Karoq

Thanks super

I did extensive test drives in a Seat Ateca and VW Tiguan (both closely related to the Karoq) when looking for a replacement to my Superb.  Both were good cars, especially the Ateca.  In the end I went for an Octavia as I preferred the handling.  The 1.5 tsi petrol engine is very good

Owned 5 Superbs from 05 plate MK1 to 16 plate MK3 and just bought (26/01/2018) wife Karoq 1.5Tsi Manual SEL. Now done 2,200 miles at 43.1mpg and have to say it's great to drive and just as good interior quality even compared to the MK3. Cannot fault it and at £23,500 including Metallic Moon White spec is very good on this model and glad I did not pay the extra for the Edition model. Very comfortable and quiet motorway cruiser and handle B-Roads better than a Superb, capable of taking bends at 60mph with no drama. Hope this info helps.

I'm still shopping around, but I was quite impressed with the 2.0 TSi AWD Ateca, ( Skoda don't sell the equivalent powertrain in the Karoc, more's the pity....). Fun to drive & a "rapid departure" was possible without any drama.

Pity that there aren't enough decent SEAT dealers though.

Thanks for the input

wouldnt a 2 year old yeti 4x4 be a better buy in an elegance trim our superb is mostly for my wife to use but it comes into its own for carrying our bikes and whatever else we throw at it, we almost got a Yeti elegance but our superb came up at a really great price and just had the extra room which you dont need anymore

2.5 months later, I reckon the Superb's a keeper! :D
