PCP millage over what to expect?

Featured Replies

Hey guys I was looking at my terms and agreements and thought to plan ahead. I got a fabia monte carlo when they pretty much came out back in Aug 2015, my agreement was for 12k miles a year however I've done close to 35k now so that averages out around 15k a year or so. When I originally ordered the car and spoke about the PCP I did say I wanted to have the agreement for 15k per year but the sales guy talked me out of it and said I'm better off under estimating my millage than over estimating as it be useless paying more than I need to.

As I've never had a car on PCP I want to know what sort of my options are? I believe if I was to hand the car back I would have to pay the millage charges on it so I think its like 4.4p per mile, if I was to say get another car on PCP would they overlook the fact I've gone over my millage? What is your personal experience with PCP if you've faced something like this?

If I helps I'm planning on keeping it to the end of my 42 month agreement as I'm waiting to see what new cars come out closer to next year.

Thanks, Leprejohn

Unless you’re handing the car back then it makes no difference as that’s when the excess mileage would kick in.

I find this question crops up a lot. There seems to be a lot of people out there who don’t really know what/how they’ve bought and what the conditions are. That’s not a dig btw, just an observation.

Edit:  When I say it makes no difference i mean there will be no excess mileage charge. The trade in value may suffer however.

Don't worry Scott I didn't get it as an insult or a dig, it was something that I was curious off as I did ask the sales guy at the time and he said it wouldn't matter but I wasn't sure if that was just a ploy to get his commission but thanks for clearing it up :)

If you are keeping the car the mileage is irrelevant

The Fabia has a fairly low excess mileage.

Example If it was 4.4p then 5000 miles over is £220

Difficult to know what was agreed with the salesman, but over a 42 month deal that averages £5.24 per month, clearly if this was less than monthly extra by moving to next mileage band at start of deal you have saved (in sence that if set too high and don't use all the mileage allowance, then you have paid for something that you never use)

However if you are keeping it, the option to buy price would have been different (for different mileages at 42 month point) so it ends up about net zero as the change in monthly payments roughly offsets your different option to buy price.

When I bought my Fabia we set mine at 8000 miles a year!

Salesman basically told me in pcp you never hand the car back, they will contact you in 2.5 years time to see if you want a new pcp deal and trade the car in for a new one unless you want to keep it but he says most people change it for a new  car say every three years even if your deal is 4 years and if that’s how you play it the mileage is not relevant.

Oh that isn't actually that bad at all, I don't plan on keeping the car I'm thinking of waiting till the new face lift fabia is announced and I might order that
