Hi all, 

 

How easy is it to replace a rear door on a fabia vrs? 

 

I'm starting to get some rust and I think it would be cheaper to replace the door with one from the breakers than have it sprayed etc. 

 

Would the central locking need recoding ?

If it's a mk1 Fabia it's easy. Just gotta pull back the rubber gaiter on the door shut , disconnect the wiring plug and unbolt the checkstrap. Then undo 2 x 13mm nuts on hinges and lift door off. About 5 mins work. 

Swapping all of the internals is a different matter tho lol.

Yes as above very easy, but get hold of a t45 torx so you can adjust the hinges as necessary as another door may not line up properly.

You will probably have to remove the doorcard on the replacement door and seal up the carrier as it will probably not have been done.

Also, make sure the door you buy has central locking not a manual release one otherwise it wont work properly

I'm presuming it wasn't done on this one until I got it 18 month ago. But the damage must have already been  done with the rust. 

 

I'll treat the rust tomorrow and look for a door. 

 

Any way to tell if it's a central locking door?   

If you are buying a complete door it should have the same amount of wires at the plug as your door if it has cls fitted. The non cls doors have virtually none.

A non central locking door will have no wires or at the most just a single pair.

One with central locking will have 2 connectors, one is for the rear door tweeter

Just had a look at the sdi base model I am breaking and it has no wires going into the rear door as standard.

Unfortunately I have a silver vrs. On the car your breaking does it have a decent condition gear stick all the numbers on mine are worn out. 

Different gear stick on an sdi to a vrs. 

 

They are not cheap either , even on the bay.
