New MOT regulations!

Featured Replies

Reading into this looming change in MOT regulations. Am I correct in saying any aftermarket hid conversion will be considered a major fail? And therefore fail an MOT??

There is another topic on this, and it would seem so, so yes, they will fail if the tester does a thorough job.

"Some vehicles may be fitted with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps. It is not permitted to convert existing halogen headlamp units for use with HID bulbs. If it is clear that such a conversion has been carried out, rather than replacing the entire unit with one designed and approved for use with HID bulbs, the headlamp should be rejected."

They’ve been trying to stop this for years though, go back 5years and they said if you didn’t have headlamp washers fitted with HID lights then it was a fail.

The latest MOT draft do not specify that HIDs need washers or self levelling, only if fitted they must work.

Hope you are correct but may be bad news if hids were retro fitted to cars sold with halogens  saw this elsewhere .

Those of you who have changed your standard headlight bulbs for HID's will now get a major fail even if the aim is correct. It has always been an offence to fit HID bulbs to halogen headlamps so the MOT is now in line with that.

Good if that means less driving a dazzling other road users,

and less with 'upgraded bulbs / lights' driving about with  crap upgraded lights not working and yet the driver seems unaware.
