Rear view mirror Sensor(?)

Featured Replies

Evening all, just wondering what this is on the rear casing of the rear view mirror (towards passenger side)?

Want to mount a dashcam on the screen behind it but don't want to interfere with anything else.

I'm guessing its some kind of sensor... alarm? Internal temp?

Don't think its for light / rain as I assume this is directly on the screen behind the rear view mirror mount?

Always better to check first and if anyone will know it';s you lot; cant find anything in the manual.

Any help appreciated.

This is ambient light sensor. It means, if at the front of the car there is a plenty of light, the mirror will not dazzle, even exposed in strong light from behind of car.

Thank you,

So no real biggy if I install a dashcam in front of it (there will be about 5 - 10 cm clearance)?

I think it is no problem.

FYI (and thanks @Enriquez ) I put it on lastnight and have today driven in the dark, cloud and bright sunlight (UK weather, effing amazing!) with no adverse / noticeable effects.

Wanted my dashcam out of my view completely so the LHS behind the rear view mirror is ideal, can still be turned to either side window if required too).

Just hope I never need to use it now!
