Mk1 Octavia vrs engine noise

Featured Replies

Can anyone please help me with an engine noise...it goes quieter when it warms up....https://youtu.be/HJSEPbv8uDc

Any more info at all? does it disappear completely when warm? Does it speed up with acceleration? Any smoke or hesitation etc? Is the oil level ok and has it been changed regularly?

@CraigVRS1 - When was the oil last changed?

Thanks for the quick response guys....the sound does not completely go away...and it is due a service... The car drives ok

In that case it's not a bad idea to change the oil first before investigating further as if the oils gotten too thin it can cause top end tapping

@CraigVRS1 - To explain a bit further, the reason we wondered about the time to service etc is that oil thickens when it gets older (not colder but it does that as well), so hydraulic tappet engines always sound at least a little tappety when they need a service due to that effect. In this case I think you need an oil change using an appropriate VAG500 series oil stat!
