MPG --- the only consideration

Featured Replies

I need the maximum MPG...

So

Octavia or Superb?

Diesel 1.6 or 2.0ltr?

105, 140 or 170bhp?

5 speed, 6 speed or DSK?

FWD or 4wd?

no older than 6 years

I have a contract till July 2021 doing 500 miles a week, country roads A - B and a few lanes.

I had a 2015 1.6 Superb estate, 60+mpg on a run, 50 round town

White...........or a £700 respray!

Sorry before the posts flood in.

?

For every gallon of diesel you put in the tank you get 50 miles driving in and around a town, is that right?

Stopping, starting, sitting with the engine running, or is it always off if not moving?

Sounds like you have the perfect economical car now if you can do the 500 mile a week contract and need no more than 45 litres of diesel.

Can't you search for all those combinations in Fuelly and see what real-world results there are for each?

I don't know about Fuelly, but you can do that on Spritmonitor.de and get good crowd-sourced data, though on there you'll get answers in litres/100km. Google can easily convert those to imperial mpg if you don't fancy the maths.

Ive got fuelly and despirit accounts and have both in MPG

Just as an indication my 2.0TDI 150ps SCR DSG Alhambra can give 10 miles to the litre easy, with 4 or 5 adults and luggage,

so 630 miles for 63 litres, and even up to 730 miles for 63 litres at this time of year.

it uses the 17 litres of Ad-blue in about 7,500 miles.

But if i did 5 x 5 mile trips with cold starts it can drink a gallon of diesel.

So as a town car it is pretty hopeless, but then there are plenty like that if doing short cold start trips.

So look on those sites for the cars you're wanting to choose between.

I am doing that research thanks

just thought id ask for personal experiences

How about simply another Facelift Superb II 1.6td? (without the fix!)

A friend of mine has a manual diesel 170 (not 4x4) and gets 55 on a run if you take it steady. Considerably less around town though.

Saying that I get nearly 50mpg on a long run with my petrol but it's very weight sensitive
