I think there is a lot of internal VAG politics going on.  People are saying engines are going to the Golf GTi because VW margins are stronger, but I'm not sure that's true. Consider all those GTis sold in the USA for about $25000. that's only about £18000.       

 

I'd heard the German Unions were unhappy with engine / gearbox production. Partly due to Czech plants building mainly small TSi's and German plants doing most of the diesels. Diesel gate has shifted sales towards the TSi's and away from Diesels so demand is against the German Plants. But VAG have an issue as the Czech plants are much cheaper to run and moving production to Germany would push up the cost per unit and increase prices or lower profits.
