FIRST SERVICE

Featured Replies

A message has been flashing at me for a few days saying today for instance that an oil service is due in 19 days time. This puzzles me as the car was registered on 30/3/17. I was quoted £197 for the service. Is this good value for an L&K 280?

How many miles?

The car may have been registered on 30/03/17 but the service message would have been set when the car was PDI'd. As an example mine was registered on 01/03/2017 but the indicator started alerting me late January meaning the PDI was done on about Feb 26th.

Just get it booked in and all will be fine.

As for price I bought the first 2 services with the car via the Skoda pack, £279. Quite a saving over buying individually and you are protected against any increases.

5500 probably 6000 by the time I get there. Just been on the Skoda site and it says £179 so perhaps I misheard. My wife's Dacia recently had a first service which cost £149 and hence perhaps the Skoda price is not so bad.

Ask for the Skoda package as skidpan says first two services £279. Available to all cars under 1year old.

They pdi'd far too early and set it to fixed interval servicing. Normally the cars arrive with variable interval set. Did you ask or approve them changing it?

Complain.

Mine was changed from variable to fixed without my knowledge, but thanks to this Forum I found it and had it changed back - with some serious words with the Dealer about making unauthorised changes!

If only 5,500 - 6,000 miles in 372 days under 9,400 anyway or there about you should maybe think on sticking with Fixed servicing

if you own the car and it is not a lease one going back in a few years.

But not paying any crazy price for an Interim Service that used to be called a Fixed / Inspection Service by Skoda.

Remember @ 3 years you have a Brake Fluid change and Haldex Service to pay for,

and at 40,000 miles a DSG Oil change that Audi are now saying is at 38,000 miles.

Mine also did this. Didn't mind too much TBH as I wanted an early oil change. But I've made it clear that it then goes to variable. it goes in on Monday.

Mine was also changed from variable to fixed at the first service but apparently you can;t have the car on variable servicing if you pre-pay for the first two services. It is still worth paying the £279 for two though.

I'd heard this too, which is one reason why I didn't go for a plan. For me it's more about convenience - the cost of variable is about the same as fixed since each service is more expensive (AIUI - waiting for the dealer to confirm), but you don't have to have them done as often. Doing 30k a year I couldn't bear having to go to my dealer 3 times a year on fixed servicing, and the car is still guaranteed new oil at least once a year. For lower mileage drivers I can certainly see the appeal of fixed.

Just heard back from the dealer. Confirmed the service regime will be changed to variable and the long-life oil will be used. Cost - £179 - same as for fixed. I even queried it with the person who called but they confirmed again and sent an email further confirming. Anyone else surprised by this?

No. The dealer I use says they always use longlife oil regardless of fixed or variable. I suppose it isn't worth the hassle of them keeping two large barrels of oil on the go at once. So there is absolutely no difference between fixed and variable servicing, except what they set the service indicator to afterwards.

+1. Don’t know what’s more of a concern; the dealers still telling customers this OR the chance they themselves think it’s still the case.

Thanks Nick and Penguin - that makes much more sense. I can't blame the dealer for this one to be fair. I had it in my head that the long-life oil was more expensive, so only used for variable, and therefore variable costs more. Hence the original question. The car is with the dealer now and they confirmed the original £179 price again when I handed it over.

Car collected. Now says next oil service in 20,600 miles or 720 days so I'm happy, if a bit surprised - I'd expected it to say 18,600. No advisories:biggrin: as you would expect only 6 weeks after I picked it up. Price £179 as quoted.

Where in Brizzle are you having the service done? I am planning to use the Platinum dealer in Bath.

I went to Blade. Used them for the previous SII as well. No complaints - they seem relatively competent but I haven't needed anything more than straightforward servicing.

Sorry for quoting my own post, but I was surprised enough to check again today. After a fairly routine commute of 190 miles it's now at 18,500. At this rate it will need another oil service in about a week and a half!:D
