Carista

Featured Replies

Hey all seen all the guys doing customisations via vcds i would go into that but I don’t want to go to much into it, I’ve seen a few mention the carista app with the plug in, what customisations are available on the mk3 elegance

is it worth it?

Thanks

Not just guys (I know it’s a figure of speech, just like to stick up for us girls) and I would recommend OBDEleven over Carista. I know it’s on iPhone but I just looked for a cheap Android device to run it. You can do long coding on the OBDEleven and you can’t on Carista. It’s not that expensive, £60 all in for the dongle and pro pack. You can do all sorts, depends on what you have on the car already but the pinned thread on this section of the forum will show you what you can do. Cornering fogs, fan speed lights in auto climate, alarm chirp, needle sweep, refuel quantity in maxidot, rear lights on in DRL, and many more are all options you can code in.

+1 for what sasha said i brought a carista first after reading lots of reviews with people singing its praises BUT I found the amount of things you can change on the Mk3 octavia is very very limited. Where as I have since purchased an obdeleven and the pro upgrade and as long as you are careful and follow the adaptation guides to the letter ( lots of German phrases to get your head around) there is not much you can't change. Or if your not comfortable coding the car yourself you can buy credits and use the pre written apps. You choose the one you want press and hold the go button and its all done for you. Also the amount of diagnostic information the obdeleven gives is fantastic

I would also add the most important (IMHO) factor of Carista vs OBDeleven or VCDs, is the lack of transparency in what changes are actually being made to the software in your car. Both OBDeleven and VCDS log the changes you make so they can be easily reversed should things not go according to plan.
