Record of fault codes

Featured Replies

On a cold start, first thing on a morning, I drive for < 1 minute and the car shows a flashing glow plug (fault recorded from the engine management system) followed by limp home mode. A Start Stop error is shown in the car status section of the Infotainment. Once I restarting the engine the fault clears and the car drives normally (including start stop operation) for the rest of the day.

I'm wondering whether the error codes of each fault are recorded when they occur e.g. a history of events, or are they cleared on an engine restart? I've booked in at Pulmans, Durham for a diagnosis, but its 10 days until they can fit the car in.

At least on my car, I sometimes get these so-called "intermittent errors" and they do get recorded, but. .

...if they do not reoccur for a while, they clean themselves out.

I’ve had those pop up on my dads car on some extremely cold mornings. It was fine after a restart. I used Vcds to look what was going on. It gave a start stop error. I reset it and drove it myself for a week after with no repeat.

the cars no moved this week as he’s too scared to drive it in snow.

Thanks for the replies. It was a bit warmer this morning and the error did not occur, although its a bit early to tell if its temperature related or not. I was more concerned the management system dropped the car into limp home mode i.e. it was serious enough to harm the operation of the car, which was why I booked it in to the dealers after the second time it occured. I've already picked up on the forum that start stop errors don't necessarily mean its the root cause of the issue, but hopefully that is all it is. If the error information is erased after some time its not going to make diagnosis very easy!
