Speaker connectors/adapters

Featured Replies

Hi, currently I'm trying to install new aftermarket speakers from the OEM in my Mk1 Hatch as the sound quality isn't the greatest. However, I encountered the issue that the connectors do not fit my new speakers. Without slicing the wires, would anyone have any idea where can I get the adapters required? Here is images for reference: https://imgur.com/a/Y23hk

A quick reply would be appreciated so that I could install them as soon as possible.

Try these I have them in mine after replacing the speakers. If I remember you have to relocate the wires so that both earths are in the middle of the plug. They work perfectly in mine.

If you wouldn't mind, could you explain the process of relocating the wires and how difficult is it to do so?

Basically you take the earth loop and move it to the middle and the live loop to the outer. Hope my dodgy diagram helps?

Oh, you do that with the adapter? Afterwards, the two plugs should fit and work fine inside the adapter right?

Yes hope that makes it easier to understand? The brown and white are the earths and blue and white are the lives. Its always a brown with a trace line that's the earth on the speakers. You will need to do the same on the rears as the other  plug is for the tweeter.

It does, will order them and try it. Will let you know if it works out, if it doesn't work, I believe the only option is crimping or soldering which is something I wanted to avoid.

To be honest you will not see much of an increase in SQ...best option is to upgrade the head unit and also fit a small 8" active subwoofer in the boot [fitted mine in the door pocket], like night and day then

Already have a pretty good head unit, but the sound quality is lacking hence the upgrade. I do have plans to install a subwoofer, but at later stage due to it being a bit of a pain to install which will be even bigger pain than with the new speakers.

It was not too bad, just a bit fiddly with the power cable from the battery being done neatly, maybe one for the warmer weather :)

Most likely will be done in late spring/summer with an exhaust mod too. I do have a bit of plans for the car haha

Hi, just received the adapters today. How do you exactly swap the wires? Do you just pull them out by the wire as there isn't anything else to grab them or do you use a tool to do that? Just want to be sure so that I don't end up breaking the adapters.

Hi

sorry for late reply. There is a small locating tab on the terminal. You need a very small thin screwdriver or pick to push the tab down, then the pin can be removed, the tab pushed back up then push into the new position.

On which side is it exactly on? The flat side (left on the image) or the grooved side (right on the image)?

I can’t remember sorry it’s been a while since I did mine. That’s a bigger pin but that’s what your looking for. Look in the end of the connector that plugs in and you might see it.
