When to order new car?

Featured Replies

Afternoon everyone.

Long time member but not much of a poster however I could use some advice..

OK so I have a meteor grey hatch Octavia vRS 230 & 7 months remaining on it's current PCH deal. I received a letter from Skoda finance advising me off this & to speak with dealer about new deal which I've done & they are saying to get new car order in now (no surprises there).

My question is.  realistically when should I start looking / placing order for new car? I don't know what would happen if new car was available before current deal expires.

Any advice greatly appreciated..

Ps far from happy I can't order a new Octavia vRS petrol but that's another rant altogether

Delivery timescales seem to be around 4 months from order (though some have been quicker, others slower)

If you’re after a new Petrol vrs I don’t think you can order any in the uk. 230 and 245 are off sale and believe the current 245 order book is full till end of June.  MY19 vrs’s will then appear. Expect orders to open shortly but you’ll be looking at July deliveries at the earliest.  My delivery date will eventually be 8 months from ordering and was originally quoted 4!

Oh dear Will your timing is bad

When I ordered my 245 last May they had just been released & I couldn't find a decent PCH deal (discounts hadn't been agreed at that point) so, you will probably find the same thing with the order books being closed.

If you definately want another vRS it maybe worth talking to your current lease company about extending 6 months or so.

When quizzed about the vRS the dealer wouldn't say anything about order book opening back up & was suggested the Superb 220 sportline.

My original query was to do with how early to start sourcing a new vehicle + placing order. As I don't know the ins & outs  last thing I would want is to be paying for 2 vehicles if new one arrived early

themanwithnoname - is that an option through Skoda finance?

Sorry to derail the thread slightly, but does anyone know how long after the order books have opened the decent discounts start to appear? currently it was showing at nearly 25% with the £3k pcp contribution.

Extending your lease is definitely an option if your current and new cars are through Skoda. Not sure about other lease companies

The sportline 220 looks real

smart but not sure how much spec it has vs MY19 VRS - you may find more value in waiting for the VRS to reopen or in leasing a nearly new VRS 230 or 245

Thanks for all the advice

Definately an option, give them a call & explain what you want to do, they should be able to keep you informed by email to on when the vRS order books reopen too

Took about 6 weeks from the order books opening on the 245 till I got a cheaper PCH quote than the PCP's on offer. As it was I didn't have time till my current PCP ran out, which can't be extended without making the ballon payment.

In hindsight with the diesel scare stories inflating the petrol prices I may have made a few quid that way around but, having seen how long some have been waiting for their 245's on the cheap PCH deals I'm overall happy

I have received a similar letter in Feb on a PCH deal that expires early October

I have chosen to ignore it for now, realistically if you are after PCH will have to order in Q2 (April-June) or a stock vehicle if ordered later, cannot actually order now

Skoda delivery dates are all over the place at the moment, some seem to be few weeks, others cant even be ordered.

Virtually impossible to guess as different engines/gearboxes seem to have different dates.  Need to sort of plough through the delivery threads

There is currently a >50% chance next car wont be a Skoda, as the specs and price aren't to my preference at moment

This was where I was at & felt confused. I've had initial discussions with my local Skoda dealer who have offered an okish price however it is more £££ then what I'm paying now & in my mind you don't get as much. (the octy 230 vs superb 220 sportline)

I have spoken to Skoda UK about extending my current lease but they would not entertain the idea. They did say there was the possibility of new petrol vRS' for the new model year change but could not guarantee.

I've also started looking at other brands

Is this not a case of the dealer thinking a Superb order in the hand is worth much more than a potential VRS one at some point in the future?

Its in the nature of salespeople to want be always closing and sell what is available before you change your mind or circumstances change etc etc.

What is the dealer saying about the new car arriving months before the current lease is up? Is he just factoring in settlement of the current into your new agreement? Suits him fine but maybe not in your best interests.

I would hang tight until 4 months before your current deal ends. Petrol VRS will probably be back by then and get agreement from your dealer before ordering that they will sort you out if the new car does not arrive on time (or very early).

I had a diesel vrs on a 24 mths lease deal that ended last July with VW finance when I spoke to them they let me increase the lease by 3 mths at no extra cost but no longer which I did.  Maybe it was because it was a 24mths lease. Maybe it was because I spoke to them with only 2 months remaining on my deal I don’t know. how long is your lease for WilldaVRs ? Is it not with VW finance?

Would they let you increase it by 3 months? How long were you asking for?

I believe if the car arrives early the dealer can and will keep it until your current lease is up. This happened to someone on the Superb forum whose 280 has been with the dealer since November due to it arriving earlier than expected and I believe they only collected it last week.

What does the octy 230 have that the Superb 220 Sportline does not? The Sportline has a pretty good specification as standard.

The vRS has handelling & NOT very large barge like qualities

Do not think I have lost any handling between my VRS and my superb and I do not even have the Sportline. In fact I am coming out of roundabouts far quicker and with less fuss than the VRS.

The Superb even with DCC was way too wallowy for me on a 72 hours test drive, got a 245 with DCC instead but, if your happy with it then that's fine

Even though I was on the Skoda finance website (I thought) I might have spoken with Skoda UK in error but they did say they were looking to reopen order books for new model year but couldn't confirm.

They did tell me if a car was ordered & arrived early the new deal would just swap over straight away so am confused (again) following the comment made above..

Have decided to hold fire for a couple of months before looking at my options
