Before I start breaking it.......

Featured Replies

The non starting saga of last year persists. Briefly the car stopped one morning without any warning, we were unable to get any diagnostic reader to interrogate the ECU, and after several attempts at getting a repair I sourced a bunch of bits from eBay  Winter forced me to leave it laid up but having now changed the ecu steering column and clocks I found that it still wouldnt start. I also noticed that they new clocks were not lighting up properly (just battery light) with the original set the lights all come on, and at first I was getting it to fire on the key and run for a second than stopping with the immobiliser light flashing. All good - it seemed clear that all I needed to do was call the key man to do some programming when I decided to check if the ASR light was going out on the (brief) engine start when I found that she wasnt firing again.

I now find that it will fire but not run if I spray it with easy start (A colleague gave it a squirt to settle his own curioslty) but apart from that it just turns over. Plugging in VCDS just tells me steering angle sensor ok - everything else enginewise (and abs etc) is apparently unreachable. Id call out the key guy but now the brief start has ceased Im thinking there is something else at play here besides the Immobiliser, When it was briefly firing up VDCS confirmed that the start was interrupted by the immobliser so it was as it should be then, but now something isnt communicating. The fuel pump is running fine and when it did start with a full throttle it revved freely before the immobiliser shut it down.

Im about ready to give up - unless anyone has suggestions - and the box of matches/run it over with a tank/stick of dynamite ones have already been made by my less than helpful colleagues at work.

Its annoying, its only a 1.6 FSI one previous owner and only 81k on the clock. but ive spent enough including having it looked over by the local auto electrics guys, VCDS was the last roll of the dice. its revealed a few little issues e;sewhere with the car, and Im learning the ins and outs of the software slowly, oh and ironically the turn over - but not run with easy start is also present with the old ecu which BBA Reman declared "defective"
