Voice control of Satnav announcements

Featured Replies

I would like to be able to turn on/off the navigation voice announcements in my 2017 Octavia SE-L using Voice Control without stopping the visual navigation. I have found a command "Switch on/off navigation prompts" but that stops the visual navigation. I know I can use the steering wheel volume control to turn down/up the announcements but that relies on having the radio or music on so that I know when the lady is talking.  My old portable Garmin allows me to turn the volume up and down using voice control so I hope the Amundsen SatNav can do the same. Does anyone know if that is possible?

Use voice control. The commands are “navigation announcements off” and “navigation announcements on”.

Thanks. I just tried that but all I got was "Advanced navigation functions cannot be operated with voice control"

Strange. I did it the other day in my 2016 VRS with Amundsen satnav. What age is your car and what infotainment system is fitted?

My Octavia was new April 2017 and is an SE- L with the Amundsen as standard for that model. I guess there is a fault. It is due for its first service so I will see if the Skoda dealer has any explanation.

I have turned my nav announcements off. It’s in the menus somewhere (not with the car at the moment) but I didn’t use voice control.

If you press the roller wheel the satnav will repeat the last instruction and then you can turn the volume down. However, it should work with "Navigation Announcements Off". It certain does with earlier units (MIB1) but possible changed for your later unit.

Yes I have been using the wheel but in order to turn the volume back up I need to have the radio or music on to know when the SatNav is talking or guess as I approach a point where it is likely to be talking. Not very modern age!!! I am pursuing Skoda through customer services, as they don't seem to have technical support, to try and get a solution. If they don't respond I will persuade the dealer to tackle them.

I assume MIB1 is the Amundsen version?

You don't need the radio on, press the right-hand roller at any time when a route is set and it will repeat the last command, even if the volume is already at zero, then you can alter its volume with the left-hand roller. You can press the right-hand roller as many times as you like in order to adjust the announcement volume. I still don't know why voice control does not work. MIB1 refers to a particular release of unit. Mine is a Columbus MIB1, there is also an Amundsen MIB1, the latest of either is MIB2.

Thanks Paulius55

That sounds like a good solution.
