Upcoming service advice

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a service coming up and wanted to check what I should have changed.

I did the oil myself recently,

I am assuming new fuel filter/ air filter? Cabin filter was done recently as well.

Anything else I should consider?

Thanks

That is the Consumable servicing.

The other important part is maintenance & inspection.  Post winter.

So wheels off, brakes cleaned / sliding pins greased, back of pads applies with copper slip, steering, suspension, tyres checked, tyre inside walls.

@ 3 years then each 2 the brake fluid changed.

Main Dealer Servicing is often little more than Oil & Filters changed, a look see and report and a FREE wash and vacuum.

That is just Oil Services really, Not actual 'Servicing'.  That is their Upselling opportunity for A/C Service, Engine Flush, Brakes Corroded need replaced etc.

I've just had my Rapedo (Toledo) serviced 1.2tsi, it's only just hit 16k miles in 4 years ownership.

I had an inspection service last year @11k miles as it had a full service the year before @8k miles approx.

This time around they did the pollen/air filters oil + filter change, full brake service and general overall inspection + MOT  £231. My local garage.

They want £99 at the SEAT dealer just for the oil change but do include breakdown cover with all services, I've already got that covered though.

I assume that you need to take it to the dealer for a service for warranty reasons? Or is this to do yourself? If its yourself then GSF currently have a deal on at 60% off till tomorrow. Just got all my filters and a sump bolt for the princely sum of £18! (albeit for a mk2 octy tdi) Then quantum oil from ebay. Grand total about £45 for a full service.
I always do the 'full works' for each 10k service. Might sound like overkill, but the car has now done 200k (120k in my ownership) without a single fault or replacement engine/engine ancillary part. I would second what awayoffski says about doing the brakes, important to keep on top of, (though I use ceramic based grease rather than copper to lower any metallurgical reaction)

The breakdown cover has value, depending on the level of cover you already have and level of cover being offered then £99 may be a good price indeed!

SEAT Grimsby didn't mention the free breakdown cover with services. SWMBO has just used all her TESCO point's buying RAC cover since.

If it was on your new one they only offer it on 2-15yr old cars. I got an email to this link http://www.seat.co.uk/content/dam/countries/uk/Download documents/2018/SEAT_Fixed_Price_Servicing_Leaflet_2018.pdf

I've got cover with Autoaid which covers the Toledo and my MX-5, well whatever I'm driving really but the Seat deal does seem worthwhile having. I try and avoid main dealers now, if my local garage can do it for less £'s then they get it.

Thanks all

No warranty so happy to do what I can.

To list what was said here,

New air filter

(Any other required?)

Brake clean and check

New brake fluid

Anything else?

How many miles has the car done, is it a diesel or petrol, if petrol then maybe spark plugs to change at 40,000 miles, or at least check, and if checking them as well to change them.

What gearbox do you have, if a DQ200 DSG no servicing required but if a 2013-2015 maybe service campaign field action '34H5' is required a software update.

It is a 2013 rapid 1.2 tsi petrol

67k done

Serviced one year ago and had spark plugs done then with all filters/ brake clean etc

How would I go about getting the software update done? It was serviced with Skoda for the first 3 years so not sure if it was done then?

If you have a DSG then you check with a Skoda Main Dealership or Skoda UK customer services if there is an outstanding Service Campaign,

it was started late 2016 and if the car was at a Main Dealers for servicing or work doing the Keeper should have been informed if it applies to their car.

'34H5',  It gets done free.

The Service Campaign (and World Wide Recall excluding Europe, as not on the world....) '34F7' appears on this VIN chaecker or should if outstanding,

but '34H5' does not.
