They achieved delivering to customer, and those are Dealerships not just paying customers.

So all they need to do is sell them. not just first register to Dealerships and sit with others in stock unsold.

So lets see how many were 'sold in the first quarter', not just still in Stock.or sold as Used cars.

Unsold Yeti about even when Production stopped in 2017.

Order books closed on lots of models as well that are not going to be sold later in 2018 because the real world emissions results would be terrible.

Hi thanks for the comment, I am not the experienced with Skoda...I don't own one but am mulling over getting a Superb. What's your experience? Good cars? Reliable?

I’ve had a series 2 Superb elegance 2.0 170 BHp with DsG gearbox for just short of 3 years and 119k faultless miles. Great car , only had a leaking rear shock absorber changed and 2 hands free microphones. Other than that just services. Front pads and discs changed at around 90k and rear pads only at 98k.

Still runs like new and returns over 50mpg (dot matrix figures) on work Day runs.

ordered a new Superb and didn’t seriously not consider anything else.

Skoda's increased margins vs. it's other VAG stablemates is down to their cars being manufactured in the Czech Republic, with it's weaker economy and lower people costs.

The price we pay is still competitive compared with VW, Audi and Skoda's other mainstream competitors so we are benefiting from some of those margins.

Re Unsold Yetis' - very hard for a manufacturers to predict. Get it wrong and you either have nothing left to sell for many months or old models stuck in stock. What wasn't probably taken into account was the backlash against new diesel cars.

Re Order books closed because of rea world emissions, possibly but I think a lot is to do with the Euro 6D changes from June

Agree in a way but I must admit I'm thinking of looking else where. After test driving the Karoq and pricing up options - for me the price is too high. Suddenly insted of buying a decent Skoda for something over £10K I'm now looking for something over £20k. Probably some of that profit margin is something to do with it! I was quite surprised as to how much Audi I can buy for just over £20k

True about hard to predict usually. But not as you are teasing on the launch of a new model or 2.

The thing was that Skoda UK knew the best annual First Registrations and the were having to punt them cheap to have that.

So actually they must have believed their own spin.  They knew in 2016 the consequence of having cheated with diesels and being caught September 2015.

Agreed that Skoda prices have increased, they're certainly not as good value as they once were.

But compared to the Koreans and other VAG marks they're still the better choice, it's just the price gap has shrunk.

After four Skoda's in a row I was desperate not to buy a fifth one, to just try something different. However after looking for almost a year the Kodiaq was the best value petrol, 7 seat SUV, so we ordered one.

Our first Skoda was an Octavia Scout bought back in 2009. Yes it was a year old, with nearly 7,000 miles on it, but £14,000! What a bargain, bought back when Skoda's were not 'cool'.

To buy a 12 month old MkIII Octavia Scout with less than 10,000 miles will cost you £17,000. So a £3,000 increase in almost 10 years. Bake a decade of inflation into that and Skoda's are still the value choice.

Then...

bullškoda, Škoda fanboys usually coming from another, older, Škoda.

then yes, there are huge improvement if compared to previous models,

but i came from Audi 80 1985 -> Audi 100 1992 -> Hyundai Sonata 2009 -> Škoda Superb

where immediately added sound deadening to all interior and trunk, but anyway last one is louder in cabin

and ŠS3  has huge list of problems - open link in my signature

Your car had problems. They are not general. I didn’t experience just a single one of your issues during my two years of ownership.

I get that you’re frustrated, but please stop spamming all threads with your hate.

Time to buy another Hyundai or a Skoda with a more expensive dashboard (Audi) then.

I'm no Skoda fanboy, I've voiced a fair amount of criticism towards their cars and Skoda UK over the years, on this very forum.

Skoda's trick of making a more spacious car on the same platforms used for smaller VW's and Audi's for a lower price suits my (and clearly an increasing amount of other peoples) needs well.

Are skodas 'cool' now?

I wasn't under the impression they were. Im sure a lot of drivers would rather have a 'basic spec' bmw or audi rather than a get more toys skoda.

Thats just my opinion.

Skodas are driven by something different though....

I actually think they are in the way to becoming cool. My opinion.

I havent bought one yet but have shortlisted a Superb for sure as a new car is coming for sure in the next few months.

I have tried a 190 HP diesel Audi A6 the other which I can get as a Basic model for the same price as a fully loaded superb. It is a very nice piece of kit. The discounts on A6 are around 25-30% now as a new one is coming in June.

But... I am probably still going to get a Superb as I am seriously impressed by it. In many ways (for me) a faultless car in every respect.

The A6 is tiny in back by comparison. I always dreamt of owning an Audi or a BMW but I see now that this is only badge snobbery and no guarantee of reliability or quality. Yes the Audi is probably nicer designed inside but for me it’s definely not a family car. Far too small

skoda have nailed it in the past 3 years. New superb is outstanding. And of course Kodiaq and Karoq. Not so keen on Octavia (yet)

The Paloma Faith factor.

The more oldies are annoyed by the Advertising Campaign the cooler Skoda will become.

They just need to get on with some cool cars that are not given Trims like vRS / Sportline while the size of a Taxi / Airport transport.

Citogo RS with the 115ps, Fabia Sportline with 150ps and they might get someplace.

I tried to convince my other half to have a skoda rapid as the second car/run about. Also on the list was a new SEAT toledo essentially the same car.

It didnt happen citing it looks dated and a car or a certain age bracket and totally unappealing.

She bought a Kia instead!

I dont think the rapid looked cool...and didn't look 'rapid'.

Skoda is still value for money, but far less than it used to be.

There are also weird discrepancies in pricing. For example, when you take incentives into account, the superb is not a great deal more expensive than a similarly specced Rapid which looks ludicrously expensive for what is supposed to be a basic bread and butter car. No wonder Rapid sales are anything but.

Which makes the Superb a bargain in my eyes. If you spec a 520d to similar spec as an L&K your probably looking close to 50k

But those speccing 520d's want the BMW or have the finacial resource to purchase one and do not consider skodas.

Those who afford real luxuries dont shop at Aldi.

Unfortunately branding and image feature very heavily in the UK. There are very skodas on my estate but plenty of A3, Q5, BMW 1 and 3s.

Actually those that can afford the BMW probably do shop at Aldi, Lidl, Home Bargains, B&M.  and know the cost of everything and the value.

Maybe those that lease them & can not afford them but the company can and the HMRC helps out shop at Waitrose,

I honestly have even more issues than MartinB here so from my point of view Škoda has great amount few issues with Superbs. So in a way I think people deserve to hear his and my really horrible experience. Its possible some people don't notice them because they never drive without music or maybe they didn't spec DCC. Or maybe some people are just used to weird noises in their cars so they don't bother with them.

In general I would say the car is awesome, I have pretty high spec and I love the way things are done. The driving experience (apart from Noise) is amazing. But these issues and dealer not fixing them is making me going as far as already thinking to sell the car (after 7 months of ownership and just 19.000km).

My mother owned 3 Skoda's before me, my father about 2. So total 5 skodas before I bought my Superb. I came from Audi A6. Never Škoda again. Ever.

I think the lack of Skodas is not to do with quality at all but a perceived image problem, people are still stuck in the mindset of 20 years ago when Skodas were bargain basement cars - don't think it applies these days. I am currently driving a 6 year old Astra which was also a bargain after a good negotiation, it has been almost faultless and obv is not a luxury car but it does the job. We do 4000 miles a year driving in town mostly with the yearly long haul trip, I don't want to spend 50K on a car just for show but the Superb looks great and has all the toys and is reasonably priced. Most people that own then don't appear to have problems with them

So on a scale of 1 to 10 where 1 being the lesser and 10 the greater. 10 is a perfect car. 1 is a wheelbarrow.

Where would you place the A6 and the superb....not taking into account the issues you have as they are not applicable to ALL Superbs.

I tend to agree that most expensive cars a leased and put down as expenses or otherwise. I don't think most expensive cars are bought cash
