vRS belt Squeal

Featured Replies

After having the 2011 vRS nearly 7 year with new engine 2 year ago I am getting a what sounds like a pulsing belt squeal only on start ups and when it’s cold, when engine reaches temperature the noise goes away. Probably not relevant but my exhaust has given up the ghost and will be getting new one from Tony banks next week.

So,  new engine,  old water pump,  maybe even the same 2 original belts used.   Has it had a water pump and magnetic supercharger clutch and new belts fitted since?    Are you losing even a little amount of coolant.    If belts not replaced, take care.   Gets very expensive.

Certainly does George it hasn’t had both fitted since, coolant is lower than when the engine was changed please can you bump the parts for water pump and Supercharger clutch looks like a trip to TPS, oh the joys.

Just spoken to the chap that fitted the new engine and the water pump was changed as was the belts.

If he says he did then maybe he did.

Does a new water pump, seal, belts show on the invoice?

I didn't change my belt with the pump and it squeaks very little on startup so I should get a new one, is the OE one made by optibelt ?

I take it you never changed it because after you inspected it it looked OK.

The 1.4TSI Twincharger 180ps is a little different due to the supercharger and the belts can look pretty ragged, and others can be as new.

Just checked it’s on the invoice.

I too would be grateful for any link to the parts for water pump and supercharger clutch, ours is making a slight squeal on start up. No coolant loss that I can see as yet but the car is now 6 years old. Plus I have no idea if Parks changed the stuff in Sept 2014 when doing the engine change so it's better to be safe than sorry.

Edit: it's ok I've found it. Looks like this will be next thing done then. Am I correct in thinking somewhere around £500 or so at the main dealer?

I would recommend speaking to the dealer first to see if the water pump was replaced when the new engine was put in. I contacted mine and they provided a copy of the invoice with it on.

Ordinarily I would agree with you but we are not unfortunately on the best of terms with the dealership at the moment. I will call and ask if they have receipts from September 2014.
