Hi Guys,

 

 I joined this forum many years ago, but life and University led me on a different path. I had joined with the intention of modding my Octavia MKII TSI but eventually decided to keep it stock. Now I am in a situation where the brakes and the suspension need changing. I thought this would be perfect to re-map it to Stage 1. I don't really plan on doing much more than that. Perhaps stage 1+ but I'm not certain the added performance over stage 1 would be worth it. Now, I would love it if members on this forum could help me out a bit. My options are as follows:

 

 

Brakes: 

 

1) Change the rotors to drilled Brembo Xtra rotors with EBC yellow stuff pads for both front and rear

2) Change the Calliper brackets to Superb Brackets for front and rear and change Rotor to 312/288 with EBC Yellow stuff pads for both front and rear

 

Suspension:

 

This will be done in a few months as I still have some life left in mine.

 

1) Put in Bilstein B6 with stock or Eibach springs 

2) Change to Bilstein B4 with Stock Springs and add an anti roll bar in the rear. Should I change any thing else if I do this? 

 

Remap will be a standard stage 1 which will push to 195-200 BHP claimed with perhaps 300 NM torque (not sure about the torque figures, I'm waiting for clarification from the tuners)

 

My goal is to refresh the car and keep it interesting for highway runs, which is its primary purpose. I drive and AT for my daily commute.

I have a 2007 1.8tsi M6.  You don't say what year model it is but if it's anything later than the BZB block then I'd recommend you get the timing chain tensioner replaced.

 

I've done a fair few mods to make a nice cruiser.

 

Brakes.  

you only have 288mm at front.  Get the 312mm caliper carrier brackets off a vRS / GTI / passat / superb with appropriate 312mm disc rotor. You can retain the caliper & pads.  I wouldn't waste my time with X-drilled unless you want "the look".  A good quality plain face rotor will do the job and be quieter.

Pad type is up to you as there are lots of high performance pads to choose from.

I wouldn't bother changing the rear rotor size (252mm?).  Just fit better pads & rotors.

Change the brake fluid - Motul 600 will make a difference.

 

Suspension

In India, I'd stick with stock springs - maybe fit wagon springs at the rear.   

I'd fit the B6.  B4 is just an OEM replacement.

I run Koni Yellows and Eibachs and on poor roads at town speeds the Eibachs get annoying in both ride quality and lack of ground clearance. Am going back to stock later in the year.

Add a GTI/VRS ARB and redrill the lever arm so it's 30mm shorter. Cut off the excess.

Replace the front console bushes with stiffer Audi S3 units.

Fit an insert in the dogbone mount.

Change to lightweight, quality rims in either 16x7.5  with 225/55r16 or 17x7.5 with 235/45r17.  I wouldn't go to 18" as the proportions look wrong with the stock ride height and the 18s are a bit harsh on poor roads.  Tyre pressure at 36-38psi all round.

 

Engine

Upgrade the intercooler.  At a minimum, fit the plastic tank golf R or S3 unit or an all aluminium S3 imitation off eBay.  Plug up any air gaps around it so that all the air is forced through the IC.  An IC upgrade is essential in a hot climate.

Fit a 3" downpipe and high flow 200cell catcon or knock out the first stage catcon of the stock DP immediately after the turbo.

Get a decent tune.  Generic isn't bad but for hot climates, you need something a bit more focused for local conditions and fuel quality.

Eventually you'll probably need a new DV and coil packs.  The PCV will probably die too - Afrika plate and catch can works well.

 

I've made other changes but those are the things that I felt made the biggest difference.
