Tyre Pressure Monitoring - 2nd set of alloys

Featured Replies

Having sorted an additional set of alloys for my 65 plate Scout I'm going to keep the originals for my Winter tyres and the new ones will be for summer/normal tyres.  Where do I stand with the tyre pressure monitoring.  Is there anything actually on the back of the valves in each wheel?

I did a bit of research and that pointed to it being purely done by the ABS sensors with there not actually being anything in the wheels but are unsure if there maybe variances in the systems availble.

Thanks

Yep, nothing in the wheels, just the rotation circumference of the tyre. Mine dropped from 39psi to 20psi before it noticed the difference and triggered the TPMS

You will have the indirect system...works via the ABS sensors in the hubs..so no special valves in the rims required..

Thanks,  I wasn't there when I had the current tyres fitted so couldn't see for myself.  I thought it was going to be a bit of a headache but seems simple :)

I have never had a problem when swapping the wheels.

Although i I can confirm there is nothing under the tyre

Just remember when you change wheel sets to reset the tpms. They maybe the same size in theory but it often senses the difference. I often forget to do it on one or more of our machines, sometimes it doesn't complain sometimes it does, sometimes takes a day or two. I try to reset it as a matter of course now
