Clutch tastic

Featured Replies

Some of you know that I bought my car a little cheaper knowing it needed a clutch as it was slipping. I took a few pictures for those who may be interested.

This is the old clutch, as I thought well on the way out. The groves are worn almost flat with the rivets and there are signs of the slipping and heat issues.

With the clutch set removed I cleaned up the flywheel taking off the hot spots which seem to work as I have no judder now its re fitted.

New clutch fitted after a bit of an episode. the genuine one I ordered from Nissan was incorrect which was helpfull. So I ordered one from a local motor factors that would deliver to me at my work. The clutch kit was half the price and the same make as the genuine Nissan one anyway which was a bonus. The incorrect one can go back to Nissan for a refund on monday.

Glad to say now its all in and back together there is no slippage and the GT is now back to tearing up the street!

Nice job. I do like Nissan's. They are beautifully engineered and nice to work on, if they ever go wrong. The Primera chassis is a good drive too, a much overlooked and underated car. Great choice for the budding family man.

I'll bet it wasn't as easy as you made it sound :D

wheel off, driveshaft out, gearbox out .........had an astra once that you just pulled the main shaft out and released the plate through a panel underneath ...often wondered why they stopped doing it ...seemed a damn good idea to me

They stopped doing it as they needed to fit a deeper flywheel to smooth out idle vibrations and this meant you couldnt drop the plate out.

It wasnt quite as easy on the Primera. Due to the front suspension set up you need to unbolt the left front leg to get the driveshat out. And one of the arb bolts snapped off in the subframe which i had to drill and tap out to a new bolt.

I thought that sounded too easy .........glad it's all OK know, should last for quite while

That certainly didn't have much life left in it!!

Probably the drive around with foot resting on clutch syndrome :(

Good job you were able to save the flywheel -- they are never cheap!!
