Front washer jets loss of power on windscreen. rear fine though?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I've searched on this topic but can't find a post with the similar symptoms.

My front washer jets have suddenly lost power.  The rear seems fine though and the strength you'd expect them to be.  When I use the front washers water does come out but not at the right force.  I did notice that I'm using more water but I put that down to the bad weather last month so it's difficult to say.  I filled up the tank and there didn't seem to be any loss of water.  I don't know if its a co-incidence or not but I also had my windscreen replaced too. Could they have perhaps be the problem where they've dislodged a pipe?  I guess they could be blocked too?  Is there a way to unblock them?

I hope this makes sense and thanks for reading.

If you turn the steering fully to the right and undo three T25 Torx screws at the front of the passenger side wheel arch liner you can pull it back and check if the pipe connector has popped off the pump.

If they are OK then check the rest of the pipes/jets/pump.

Thanks TMB.  I'll have a look tonight if I get time.

Do the front and rear washers share the same pump?  Is it possible to access the plastic panel underneath the front jets?

Thanks,

Bart

Yes front and rear share the same pump.

The front jets are attached to the plastic scuttle panel which can be removed. There are three plastic 'fir tree' clips holding the panel which can break on removal, so people usually buy three new ones before removing the panel. Also the wiper arms have to be removed. I used a wiper arm puller as they can be stubborn.

Clips...

This is a last resort really and probably not necessary unless the windscreen replacement operation has caused a problem under there. If the pipe hasn't popped off I would suspect the pump is faulty. It would be unusual for both front jets to become blocked at the same time.

Hi TMB,

Thanks for your comments - very much appreciated.

I've finally figured out what the issue is.  There is a T connection between the main feed from the pump and the washer jets.  The pipe from the pump isn't quite connected to the T connector and water is lost at this junction.  The plastic scuttle panel is a right mess though where they've tried to lift up the panel from the middle.  Also, the area around the clips is also marked where they've tried to get a screw driver under the clips.

I've logged a claim against the work so fingers crossed that it will be sorted.  I don't see any point fixing it myself when I didn't create the issue in the first place and they've clearly damaged the panel.

Wow that is shoddy work

Hope you can get it sorted.
