R32 FARB or not (if combined with RARB)?

Featured Replies

My Octavia VRS is fitted with a RARB and AP height adjustable coil overs all round. Next to that it is fitted with LCR top mounts on the front which will replaced by OEM VRS as I consider them to be harsh on potholes and such. On top the car is fitted with caster correction bushes, but otherwise it is all standard stuff.

Since there is a small noise, my befriended mechanic says the bushes on the FARB are on their way out. Would it be worth to buy a (used) R32 RARB? I thought the main reason to go RARB is to get rid of understeer, will a R32 FARB increase understeer again?

It is a Whiteline adjustable one and it is currently on it’s softest setting, so I could adjust to make the rear stiffer too.

On the other hand I don’t want to turn it into a unusable car as even with all the mods I feel my girls 207 1.4 already feels almost just a stable, without all the harshness of the LCR top mounts and coil overs...

@dcstuurman - OK I can't actually answer your questions in practice because I'm not you, and don't know how your car feels to you.

The theory states that increasing rear roll stiffness reduces understeer, but it does this by reducing rear end grip. (more front stiffness increases understeer by reducing front grip)

Thanks, that’s good food for thought! Maybe R32 isn’t such a good idea than...
