1.4 tsi towing capacity

Featured Replies

Recently got a 1.4 tsi (2015 - 150hp), with the aim of towing a larger caravan.

Just wondering what max weight / type of caravan other 1.4 owners have tried towing with and have you had any problems?

I am considering an Elddis Avante, max weight circa 1285kg

Have you looked at https://towcar.info/GB/

I have tried putting in your Yeti but it is only coming up with a 4x4 1.4tsi. It does not look promising.

From memory the 1.2tsi had a 1200kg limit on 12% gradient and a 1500 on an 8% gradient. You need to check your owners manual as the full figures are to be found in it. The online brochures do  not give the full figures. If in doubt check the B pillar on the drivers side. The plates top figure is for max vehicle weight and the second figure down max train weight. Deduct the first from the second and you get max trailer weight.

If the 1.4tsi had been available when I was looking I would have bought one to tow my 1200kg eriba.

Thanks for the reply and the website link. The Yeti I have is the 1.4 tsi 4*4.....but I can't seem to find the specific caravan I have been looking at....

Many thanks

On the bottom of the driver's side B post is a label, what are the four figures staed there?

It's on v5 too. Section 4, o. 1.

I used to tow a Sprite mtplm 1355kg with my 1.4tsi L&K.

No problems at all. Max tow 1800kg with 1.4.

Only swapped for a Kodiaq due to lack of boot space in the Yeti.

Hi all and many thanks for the replies. I am aware of the "theoretical" towing limits, I was just after some actual experiences of what people actual tow with this car. Its interesting to know that a 1355kg caravan is not a problem. I too was a bit concerned about the boot space, particularly since handing in my Octavia which had a huge boot. Whilst the Yeti boot is not as big, we recently took all the back seats out and it became a bit of a mini van! (Still probably not as big as the Octavia with the boot and the rear seats, but hopefully big enough for two).

As you have recently found out the boot is a reasonable size when you take the seats out. When away in France with the caravan for the summer we also take the seats out. The boot will take a table top fridge and freezer side by side. Behind are a couple of drying racks and a table, whilst the area freed up by removing the seats is good for a few stacker boxes, awning etc. On our return we manage to squeeze in about 35/40 x 3L wine boxes in the footwells and underneath the boxes and awning. There is only two of us though, as yourselves.

The weight reduction of so doing is also worthwhile...

Great estimate

I actually weighed the rear seats in my Roomster to help a fellow Briskodian:

Outer rear seat 16kg; Centre seat 11kg; Total weight 43kg

I expect Yeti seats are of similar weight.

Mine weighed about 48¾kg on scales with all 3 headrests, dunno if being leather is any heavier?
