Brake information

Featured Replies

Hi, I’m new to this site and this is my first Skoda and I adore it. It’s a 96 Felicia pick up. My issue is the brakes. I want to uprate the front brakes to vented and wondered if I need to uprate the calipers. If so, can anyone recommend which calipers will fit vented discs. I will be using the standard 236mm size. Any info would be very much appreciated, thank you.

You're best going for the 256mm vented brake upgrade, pretty straightforward.

@monsterman - In the general case you can't "just fit" ventilated discs without changing the calipers because, even if the new discs are the same diameter, ventilated discs are typically twice the thickness of plain ones and won't physically fit between the pads.

Hi, that’s actually what I was meant to ask as I know the calipers won’t allow for vented. I’ve heard of people using ford brakes, but being new to this vehicle, I’m unsure of what fits and what don’t, do any information will be very much appreciated.

I think people were using Sierra calipers for 238mm and pre-2000 Mondeo for 259mm. Discs were Renault (238 or 259mm) or Mazda 323 ( 238mm) with enlarged center hole.

Thank you for your help, I have done nothing but research and seems you are right. Many people have used the Ford calipers, with only enlarging the holes for the hangers. This will be a project later on through the year once I have finished my interior and pushed the engine a little bit. I feel I am braking earlier with the standard brakes as they are definitely not upto today's standards. Other than that, absolutely love the vehicle.
