Octavia vRS Moisture under oil cap

Featured Replies

Hello all, first post to the forums!

I'm looking at picking up an Octavia vRS estate (2006).

It all looks good but when I checked under the oil filler cap I noticed some mayo'ey gunk under the cap. I couldn't see any on the dipstick, I've also attached some pictures.

I've read on the forums that this is a relatively common thing, however I'm reluctant to throw over 3k at a car that could potentially have a HG issue!

What do you guys think of the pictures?

Thanks in advance,

Dave.

Need to take it for a good run and well warmed up and see if the Mayo disappears

For obvious reasons don't rule out a head gasket failure but I have a petrol vrs and mine is really bad for doing it. Especially in the winter time. Like mentioned above take the car for a lengthy test drive then check the dipstick and it should be clear.

Thanks for your replies people!

I'm going back to look at it again later, trouble is the garage are going to do a full service before I do, presumably making the mayo disappear after doing an oil change... Am I right to assume that any signs of a HG failure could be covered up by replacing the oil/coolant?

Thanks!

How many miles has it done?

I think I'd be more worried by the blackness/crustiness visible looking into the filler area, than that very light mayo on the cap.

How's the service history?

It's on 110.

Yeah that's also a worry!

It has bits and bobs, cambelt, water pump and abs pump done at 87k.

I've phoned Skoda regarding the service history but the dealer it was bought from on day one is no longer there and Skoda don't have any records before 87k.

It's all rather irritating!
