VW Golf R 400 MK8 on its way. Long overdue !

Featured Replies

Bout time and nice to see a Golf with analog dials again (ok I know they're gone forever and won't make it into production unless the 'Virtual cockpit delete' option stays around)

I just find the interior of the Golfs interior cheap looking with the way they've shaped the binnacle to house the virtual cockpit and then try to have it flow towards the infotainment screen.

I wonder if it will sell any better than the A45 AMG, as it's likely to be close price wise and when you're looking north of £45K for a Golf you're putting it in the firing line of other, proven performance cars with a loyal following who may not be convinced to move away from the M or RS marques, for example.

The positive will be that VAG won't be too concerned about giving the Leon, Octavia, Superb and Co access to ~310PS from the EA888 engine (or whatever the GPF version will be named).  A 300PS Octy vRS with haldex would be a good seller IMO.

Still can't make a 4 pot sound good :(

Good enough for me but I'm obviously easy to please  and mk8 technology will work wonders I'm sure.

Might even be comparable with a BMW straight 6 Diesel.lol

Straight 6 diesel with fake V8 noises on the inside ;-)

I just find it hard to get excited about high powered 2.0T engines. I guess I'm just old fashioned. for that sort of money I think I'd rather have a V8 Mustang.

I think a nice bi-turbo V6 is the way to go at the moment.

NA Flat 6 on the Porsche 981 with my Sport Exhaust ,as on my Boxster will do me and still returning mid 30s mpg on a quick county  A& B s road,  absolutely a brilliant sound, especially when heel & toeing   through a local woodland environment.. Classic I C E heaven imo.

It will be a lower powered cheaper version, so I would expect may sell a bit better.  Like the C43 vs C63 :)

Not sure I like the look of the A-class anymore.  Give me an RS3 saloon any day :)

Just parked up next to one this afternoon and it looked (and sounded) great. Only trouble I have with it is, because of it's heavy front and front wheel drive bias in most conditions, you can spec it with wider front tyres. It just seems wrong to me :D

Seem like it may be an R 400 MK8 DISAPPOINTMENT

The new 2020 VW Golf R

The next VW Golf R is, again, powerful and composed – an uber-GTI with tidier road manners and a more comprehensive specification. It shares its 328bhp turbocharged 2.0-litre four with the forthcoming Arteon shooting brake. The peak torque of 295lb ft is distributed to all four wheels via the seven-speed DSG. Expect an acceleration time of 4.3sec and relatively frugal fuel consumption. A 48-volt system with mild hybrid technology should be available on all three high-end Golfs.

Each model gets its own bumper graphics and cockpit treatment, and options including 20in wheels, larger-diameter cross-drilled sports brakes, lowered sports suspension with adaptive dampers, an Akrapovic exhaust and a blacked-out bodykit.
