Carwow & Servicing

Featured Replies

Morning all,

I've started to get some quotes & prices ready for when the company finally decide when/how they're going to take the company car off me.

I've got some quotes from Carwow (never heard of them 'till I came on here - cheers) - my question is, do you get any resistance from your local dealer when it comes to servicing if you've purchased the car via a Carwow quote from miles away?

Or is it not dissimilar to having a centrally purchased company car done at your local dealer.

I suppose I should be doing some work, but the way I look at it, they're taking the car off me, I may as well do my research in works time

You’re not purchasing from CarWow. They’re just a middle man who make the deal happen.

Yoy can get  your car serviced anywhere you want. No different to buying it from Skoda in Aberdeen but living in Manchester and getting it serviced there. The dealer won’t care.

Cheers, that's what I was hoping, it's been a while since I had my own car that would be dealer serviced

As above, but the real benefit of Carwow, Drive the deal etc is that it gives you an offer to batter the local dealer with. Just go in and be honest, here’s a price you’ve had, of they beat it you’ll buy with them. Then you don’t have to worry about having a long distance transition :)

I think that sounds like a plan.

I actually had a look round a local dealer on Saturday, I thought before I went too far down the rabbit hole of dreaming and man maths I better see if I fit in an Octavia - at 6' 5" and the wrong side of 18 stone it can be an issue.

What kind of freaks did they design the Octavia to fit? There's more than enough legroom for me!

And I know everyone raves about the boot, but now having seen one, how does that boot fit in the car, witchcraft?

As others has mentioned, you can service wherever you like. I bought mine from a Cambridge dealer and it's largely been serviced in Preston.

The only difference I found is that the Preston dealer seemed less interested in helping sort warranty complaints/niggles and, on more than one occassion, hinted that had I bought it from them they might have been able to do more. Safe to say I don't even use them anymore... Hopefully your local will be more willing.

This made me laugh :D

I know what you mean about the boot.

We had our car delivered and first think the wife said when she seen the car was 'doesn't look like the boot will be big enough' until i opened it!

that's what I thought may happen, but so far I've had one local dealer with a reasonable quote and a couple miles away that are cheaper, the other local dealer (I'm halfway between the two) hasn't done a quote.

I have to decide what I want yet, options list and man maths is driving my wife insane

To be fair I think that's more a reflection on this particular dealer, and I certainly wouldn't pay more from a closer dealership to buy a car, if one further afield was cheaper for this reason.

I moved to my current location with a 5 year old Skoda bought new back in my old town and the local dealer were more than happy to service it.

I've since bought a new Octavia again from another dealer 90 miles away (through CarWow) and just had its first visit to the local dealer for a minor warranty job (software update). They didn't turn a hair, same service as usual.  They even washed it.

It may well help that my local dealer is a service centre only, although the same parent company do have a Skoda showroom fairly close.

I must admit I haven't had great success over the years with getting a local price match with a price from CarWow or similar and I didn't even bother trying this time.

Don't forget if none of us actually buy a car through the CarWow dealers offers CarWow will not be there for long.

That's what I did. Got quotes from Carwow then went to talk to my local dealer. After a bit of a chat they ended up coming up with a price that was lower than the best Carwow quote.

I was upfront with them and told them i had quotes from Carwow but i said if they could beat them they would get the order.

The only issue i had was trying to get All Season tyres on the car from new. The SEL spec has 17" wheels and Skoda will only fit them to the SE spec Octavias on 16" wheels.

The stupid thing is you can order a Superb with 17" wheels and All Season tyres.

Garages should always be pleased to have more servicing work. They should make money on that. It's warranty work that they're sometimes less keen to do.

My car was supplied (but not sold to me) by Simpsons in Preston, but Fish Brothers in Swindon have been quite happy to service it and do some minor warranty repairs. For servicing they've charged my for the actual work done, which is quite a bit less than the standard prices which are often quoted here.

Even warranty work shouldn't really be any different if they are happy they are going to get paid by Skoda.  If there's a doubt they will get paid they aren't keen even if its the place you bought the car.
