TSI differences, clarification

Featured Replies

I've got a couple of questions to clarify some things.

1) Whats the difference between the 1.0 tsi 95bhp and the 110bhp? I read on here that the 1.2 tsi 90bhp and 110bhp are exactly the same but the 90bhp is de-tuned in the ECU. Is this the same case with the 1.0?

2) Looking into modifications specifically lowering kits I noticed a lot of the manufacturers only have 1.2 listed and nothing for the 1.0. Is the suspension the same or has it changed going to the 1.0?

I believe that like the 1.2 TSIs, the only difference between the 95 and 110 1.0 is the tuning (and the gearbox).

Finding vehicle weights is... tricky. The weights on Autotrader are rubbish, they list the 1.0 TSI as being heavier than the 1.2, which isn't the case. Skoda's website has the info for the new 1.0 TSI, but not the 1.2. I have the Skoda app on my phone, which is tied to my car's VIN, so that can give me details for my 1.2 TSI 90 but not the new 1.0, and it lists different weights (minimum kerbweight to operating weight) to the new brochure. Handily the iPad app hasn't been updated to iOS 11, which means I can't even try that.

However, the 1.0 75PS engine is a constant!

The 'operating weight' for the 1.0 75 is 1,055kg. The 'operating weight' for the 1.2 TSI 90 is 1,109kg.

The 'minimum kerbweight' for the 1.0 75 is 1,005kg. The 'minimum kerbweight' for the 1.0 TSI 95 is 1,035kg.

So the 1.2 TSI 90 is 54kg heavier than the 1.0 75. The 1.0 TSI 95 is 30kg heavier than the 1.0 75.

So we can work out that the new 1.0 TSI engine is 24kg lighter than the 1.2 TSI it replaced. That's a not insignificant amount of weight in a very small car, especially when it's right out over the front axle. Whether that means there are changes to the springs I don't know. The DSG gearbox is a similar difference in weight, so if there are different springs for DSG cars then I'd expect there to be different springs for the different TSI engines.

Looking on Eibach site it appears there are 2 kits for the 1.2: E10-81-010-05-22 and E10-81-010-04-22 but only one kit for the 1.0 which is the same as one of the 1.2 kits: E10-81-010-04-22 (looks like the same kit is used on the Seat Ibiza)

Strange that both ebay and amazon say the E10-81-010-04-22 isn't suitable for the 1.0tsi :dull:
