Newbie needs help please!

Featured Replies

Hi folks.

Just a couple of weeks ago I bought a second-hand, 2014 Fabia Estate (Monte Carlo). It was a private sale, so no warranty.

However, the fuel line keeps disconnecting from the fuel filter (I think that’s what they are!). This not only means the car won’t start, but also leaves a nice puddle of petrol under the car!

I am hopeless at mechanical things, but am reluctant to take it to a garage so soon after purchase.

Is this a common fault?

And, more importantly, can a novice like me fix it?

Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

Welcome.

So dangerous for you and others.  Not a common fault.

If you can not fix and you are not going to a garage best get a mobile mechanic to the car.

Best see any other servicing and maintenance was done correctly, is there a service record with the car?

Who maybe changed the fuel filter last?

If it keeps popping off then it's either the wrong fuel filter or the clips are broken. The clips you have to pinch in either side of the clip then pull away. When you're putting it back on the clip slots over a raised part to stop it from coming off, it should click too.

Thanks both.

It must be worn, as it clips on and off quite easily.

I’ll have another look later and see if I can work out what’s going on.

If not, I’ll have an expert check it out.

Thanks again!

Clips should be nice and tight. Not too tight to split the hose but enough to make pulling it off near impossible without pliers. Sounds like new clips are in order but if its as simple as my diesel, the fuel filter may be worth changing too.
