Dongle's

Welcome to Briskoda, hopefully your Kodiaq has a 'q' in it and not a 'c' :D

What model / specification is your Kodiaq? This will allow us to determine what head unit (radio) your car has fitted.

Internet connectivity varies from head unit to head unit.

Do you have a SIM card slot in the glovebox?

Thanks Silver.. I can't even blame the spelling on a typo with so much gap between the two keys ..

I don't have a Q key so i replace it using the letter C .. :tongueout:

The model is SE L TDI SCR

I don't have the Sim slot shown in your image just the two SD Slots..

Thanks again for the reply ..

Slightly off topic: if you have a windows pc and a keyboard with a separate numeric keypad you can insert a character using the alt code.Hold down the 'Alt' key while typing the appropriate number (must be the numbers on the separate keypad). 'q' is Alt-113. 'Q' is Alt-081. Or you could just cut and paste a 'q' from somewhere else. Here are some I'm not using, feel free to use them:

I believe your only options are:

1) Connectivity via wi-fi from your mobile phone

2) Using the official USB stick from Skoda (as in the accessories brochure) - pretty sure others won't work as the head unit won't recognise anything else.

3) Connecting to your home wi-fi. Probably won't work when you're not at home though :D.

Doesn't the SE L get the Columbus, therefore inbuilt Wi-Fi? I'm surprised the SIM card slot is missing in this example...

Unless the specs have changed recently?

Or is this factory option (Technology Pack) required?

All a bit confusing!

Yes, and no. Confusingly enough, there are two Columbus units as far as I can work out - one with and one without the SIM. The one in the SE L is the one without, and the one in the Edition is the one with... but then neither have rSAP as standard, but the Edition has everything else on that list. And which price do you pay for that option for the SE L or the Scout? It makes no sense!

My SEL has the Columbus and the SIM card slot.

Strange,

@Teepeg, how old is your Kodiaq?

@Kenny R, I wonder if your SE L is newer and has therefore benefited from a spec change, perhaps from MY17 to MY18? I'm guessing you didn't add the factory option Technology Pack?

At least to Wiggo's point, the CarStick is still an option...

Oh, hang-on, doesn't the blurb above say that CarStick is compatible with Amundsen only, not the Columbus?

Doesn’t the car stick just create a wireless hotspot, just like your phone, your home Wi-fi or any other 3G dongle? If the car can connect to your phone to get Internet access, I don’t see why it can’t connect to any dongle?

That said, I too am curious as to which SELs come with the SIM card slot. I’m about to take delivery of an SEL and I am particularly keen that it does come with a SIM slot. We ordered it with the technology pack, partly to get wireless charging and partly to make sure we get the SIM slot. It’s unclear now though whether it was even built with the Technology pack as a result of the booster issues.

You'd hope that the Technology Pack guarantees the SIM card slot, it's pretty crucial for most of the technology advances the Kodiaq boasts!

I'm pretty sure the issues around the signal booster aren't sacrificing features, just the strength / power of the booster itself? Wasn't it confirmed that wireless phone charging was still being fitted?

My SEL is 3 weeks old and I haven’t got the technology pack.

Ok, I have a stupid question, I have a SIM card slot with no SIM card in it. How does the Care Connect and the Skoda Connect app connect to the car remotely?

Thanks for the replies guys, looks as though i need to look up how to use the  IPhone hot spot, or the carstick is my other option ..

Silver, the car is a 17 plate ..

There is a model year difference between the two cars then, not sure if things changed between MY17 and MY18 though.

Not a stupid question; there is a built-in SIM for these functions only.

Well the wireless hotspot is now out of the question, i set this up on my PAYG IPhone and used £19 in less than 15 minutes ..

What sort of useless PAYG plan are you on, and what were you doing in those 15 minutes!?

Maybe you need to look into something like https://www.vodafone.co.uk/mobile/pay-as-you-go-plans/payg-1

(full disclosure: I do work for Vodafone, but not on the mobile side of the business (yes, we do other things too!))
