Clutch Pedal

Featured Replies

Hello - Mk 2 Octavia FL 2.0 CR Vrs . Clutch Pedal dropping to the floor. You have to pump it to get it back to get gears. Works fine for a while and then back to square one again. Low mileage on car 55000 miles.  Have changed brake/clutch fluid and bleed system .  Any ideas/suggestions to try before i take gearbox out?

Thanks.

You are describing symptoms of hydraulic seal failure,  (pressure drops as the fluid leaks past)

Start with checking the clutch master & slave cylinders.

Electrics & Hydraulics 'just work' until they don't, but at least hydraulics just drop pressure & leak when they pack up.

Thanks. Looking like the slave cylinder, 6sp gear box. Therefore gearbox will have to be removed. Looks like a design defect to fail at such low miles. Mk 2 Not as reliable as the Mk 1 My octavia over 200000 miles on it no problems.

A rubber seal (if that is the problem, and normally is) in the slave cylinder can go at anytime, seen it before on a vehicle with just 10 miles on the clock. so i would not blame it on a design defect. It could last the whole life time of the vehicle or as i said last just 10 miles,

As said in another thread, when your change the slave cylinder it's also prudent to change the clutch and DMF whilst the box is out as it will save a lot of hassle and expense further up the long and windy road.
