My Fabia MK2 105hp CBZB affected by chain issue ?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am new to this forum :)

I have Fabia MK2 105hp. Engine code is CBZB. The car was bought new in October 2012 from Germany. Now it has 96000 KM.

The engine sounds like a sewing machine specially when cold. I am afraid that maybe I have the chain issue. I heard that some late 2012 1.2 tsi engines have the issue resolved.

Can anyone PLEAAAAASE help me indentify if my engine have this issue ? I can provide the VIN number, and a video of a cold start  :'(

PLease, i am freaking out after hearing what can happen if the chain breaks :(

Unfortunately they all have issues with cam chains though 2013 plus models maybe less.

A dealer is able to measure the chain stretch by removing the tensioner and measuring the tensioner position, but if it is rattling loudly on cold start up, you need to change it. Unlikely you will get goodwill because of age and Skoda reluctance to admit this is a quality/design issue. However the cost of replacement need not be high if you shop around. I had one changed for the latest revision kit (chain, guides, tensioner, sprokets) for around £350 which is a similar price to a cambelt change.

If you hear a painfully loud rattle on start, immediately turn off the engine as this maybe the chain trying to slip on the sprockets. Restart and 9 out 10 times it will be quieter as the tensioner would have tensioned sufficiently to pull the chain into position.

Do not leave the car parked in gear as forcing the engine to turn back loosens the tensioner.

I was going to check the chain when I had a strange oversteer when entering the highway.. I was not going fast... The car doesnt have esp unfortunately. The car did even spin then hit the side road.. insurence is takin care of it right now... I am still not able to understand how it all happened.. I even think sthg.is wrong with the car :(  there was 0 grip even though the road wasnt slippery.. do you experience such a thing with ur mk ? :'(
