Alloy Wheel Cleaner

Featured Replies

Wanting to keep alloys as new on just delivered Octavia VRS diesel. Having used Bilt Hamber over years, is it still the best or is there something else owners would recommend?

Cheers

Bh is still one of the best, if your wheels dont get really dirty imbetween washes then some car shampoo diluted in a seperate bucket will do the job

I'm just an amateur at this, but I put three coats of Auto Finesse Mint Rims on mine and it has been excellent at minimising brake dust build-up. Any small amount that is on there just washes straight off. It takes a while to do, but well worth it IMHO.

Cheers guys

As its brand new going to try just pressure wash to wet and get any dirt off then bilt hamber to get rid of brake dust and pressure wash again.  Did 800 miles this week and a LOT of dust on wheels, even the black parts of alloys are showing it!

Take extra care with black alloys, they tend to show up more srcatches from wheel brushes then silver wheels

Yep, make sure it's a soft bristle wheel brush on modern Skoda alloys - the finish is a bit more sensitive than it should be!

I'd stick with BH Auto Wheels, for both a heavy clean and maintenance washes. I'd get them clean then get a sealant on them, which saves so much time as it's much easier to wash the brake dust a grime off. I use Auto Wheels in a spray bottle at about 1:10 dilution and rinse off. Most of the time I don't need to agitate it at all, so it's a really useful 'contactless' wash for the wheels

Has anyone thought of getting a paint shop or wheel refurb guy to actually coat them with an extra protective lacquer, whilst still new and unblemished? I mean a paint type lacquer, not a polish type coating.

I'm not sure it's really necessary. Most important is to get some sealant protection on them as soon as possible.

Could also get fiddly with the type and quality of finish, if there's an overly thick layer of clearcoat on them.
