Petrol Vrs DSG or manual for stage 1??

Featured Replies

Hi all

hopefully I can get a bit of advice and feedback on the above. Essentially I’m looking to get back into a mk 3 octavia Vrs petrol (I’ve previously had a mk 1 and mk2 fl dsg tsi) and need to know what’s best.

my situation is this-I’m considering selling my S4 B8 and splitting some of the money off into a mk 3 Vrs and putting the rest towards a daily that can also be used for a bit of track daying! Having owned a few Vrs in the past I’d happily step back into one every day of the week manual or DSG but I would be looking to put a stage 1 tune on it but no more than that. I know they map over 300bhp but most importantly does anyone have experience of how the clutches cope on manual cars with the significant increase in torque?? Or is it best to go DSG and not have to worry about that ?

I quite like driving both so it’s not a question of driving style or preference for me just capability of the car as I don’t really want to go down the route of putting a stiffer performance clutch on it as my wife will also be using this quite a bit!

my two previous Vrs have both been stage 1 and my S4 is currently 500bhp so I would definitely want to tune to stage 1 just so I wasn’t bored of the standard performance

and ideas welcome

DSG is the DQ250 and is more robust than the manual clutch for remap I believe.
