First major service (double checking a few things)

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Got the Yeti yesterday (63 reg 1.6tdi Greenline II) , full skoda history, last interim service was October 2017.

Just have a few questions (I have searched 'honestly' so excuse myself if I'm posting something obvious that's been covered)

1- Can anyone confirm the 1.6tdi engine in the Yeti is the same engine as in the wife's 1.6tdi 12 plate vw golf? (it 'looks' identical)

2- I've done the oil and air filter on the wife's with no problems BUT a bit hesitant to do the FUEL filter! I've seen many YouTube videos,  take off hex bolts, take out and replace filter. Start engine idle for a bit job done.. Is it really that easy? No purging with bulb, it's a black magic with vag-com etc?

I am a bit paranoid as I changed the fuel filter in the wife's 1.6tdi fiesta few years back and killed it! Had to take it to a mates garage. Long story short I tried to purge the system (bulb pump) but it had air in it and wouldn't start.

3- When I do the oil change I'll be using fully synthetic, 4.3 litres, type 5w 30?

Thanks for any replies, but I hope I've posted this in the correct place. If not sorry.

Cheers

Welcome.

The oil will be to VW507 00 spec,  so 5w 30 FS Long Life.

?

How many miles has it done?

What does the Full Service History show as being done at previously at minor, major and minor services, should 2017 not have been a Major service.

When was the Brake Fluid changed, was it done at 3 years old?

Are you changing Air Filter & Pollen Filter as well?

As to Major Services, they are at 24 months / 18,500 miles or which ever comes soonest.

So on a 2013 car @ 2015, 2017, 2019.

Fixed services are every 372 days, 9,400 miles or sooner. Minor / major time about.

Hi thanks for the reply...

The car has done 51,000 miles

Service book states (all skoda main dealer)

13/04/15 - 18,601 oil change, pollen filter

20/10/16 - 37,181 oil change, pollen filter, brake fluid

09/10/17 - 49,074 oil change,

My terminology 'interim' is prob wrong.

I was going to change all FILTERS (BUT NOT FUEL) , next proper service take it to skoda to keep FSH

They use Interim as a term for Fixed Servicing now, it was and still is Minor & Major really on Fixed Servicing.

I would not bother about paying a Skoda to keep a Full Service History seeing as they do so little at services.

Better use a good Independent and get Brakes Serviced / Maintained & everything inspected, or DIY.

So it was on Variable servicing, 18,601 then 37,181, then 49,074.

@ 49,074 was it left set at Variable or what does it show as the next service due?

Brake Fluid change due in 2018, or at least check the H2o content with a tester.

Cheers, I'll check the service book again when I get home.

I had to laugh at price of main dealer servicing and what they actually do.

Anybody have anything to add regarding the fuel filter service?

has it had the FIX?

  • Author

Hi... What's the 'fix'? Cheers

Best check if it has been done, and if not maybe make sure it does not get done, or check what the issues are.  Possible issues.
