Dump Valves

Featured Replies

Maybe this is a bit boy-racer (I missed this bit of growing up ;) ), but I'm thinking of getting a dump valve for my 1.8 tsi. Mostly for the noise, but I understand it also can help protect the turbo.

On the other hand, I read that it can also adversely affect the fuel injection, leading to stalling and or backfiring as the computer thinks the engine is getting air which the valve has blown off, and continues to supply it with fuel.

Does anyone have any experience or thoughts here? Recommendations for the valve if I get one?

Thanks in advance!

A turbo engined car will pretty much always have a dump valve.  what you are talking about is an aftermarket dump v/v that makes lots of noise.  I chatted to someone who knew a fair bit about tuning and he said that the stock v/v's are more than up to the job for most people.  Its one of those items that you will only see the benefit at high tuning levels I think.

But the sound can be quite good if you manage to get it to work right.
