Lights on buzzer not working

Featured Replies

Hi all. After some advise from people who have had the same fault please and fixed it.

Recently noticed my lights on buzzer has stopped working.

It no longer buzzes to tell me when i get out of the car i have left my side lights on or headlamps.

This might be total coincidence but i changed my driverside front door window switch which has the door open and lock rocker switch built in for a genuine new vw one from TPS due ti the door lock rocker switch not working all the time.

However the lights on bizzer  might not  have worked before this for a while as i carnt remember. Just seems odd why it doesnt work since this change.

Interior light still comes on and goes off .

Drivers door open red warning light comes on and off.

Door led alarm still flashes and works.

Remote open and lock of drivers door still works .

Manual open and lock from drivers door barrel and key still works.

The automatic anti car jacking feature works when i drive off the car locks all the doors.

Only thing i have found or is this normal is that when i unlock the car with the remote and dont put the key in the ignition and leave the drivers door open after about 20 seconds ish the door automatically locks and this sets the alarm off. And if i shut the door it will auto matically lock the car . It will only not do this if the key is in the ignition. Think this is auto anti jacking feature of the alarm system that is programmed on the car.

The other thing i have  noticed is that say i want to get in the boot of the car after i have locked the car i can not until i open the drivers side rear door or press the boot unlock button on my key fob. Is this normal??

Suggestions and feed back please , am i the only one with this issue??

The microswitch in the drivers door lock module is faulty.

Hi is this likely to get worse and cause more faults other than the buzzer not working? Can it be fixed without buying a new door lock ?

It won't get any worse. You can buy the microswitches on ebay but you need some skill to strip the door and remove the lock module and cut the wires of the old switch and join the wires of the new switch to the cut wires by soldering or similar. Other than that you would have to buy a whole new lock module. Some people have had success with cheap modules from ebay.

How easy a job is it to change the drivers door lock module ? Does the window mechanism need to come out etc and door card etc off ??

Might just live with it if it only going to cause this buzzer fault or are these other issues i have stated faults to do with this lock??

The door card and inner metal door panel has to come off. The metal panel is pop riveted to the door on cars after 2003 so you would have to drill out the rivets and fit new ones. Microswitch failure is a massively common problem on these locks and this applies to many VW cars not just Skoda. If you google it you will see lots of info.

So the automatic locking and having to open drivers rear door before the boot will open off its rocker switch on the boot lid is standard set up for cars with anti jacking feature enabled? Nothing to do with the faulty micro switch on drivers door lock??

No that is a typical symptom of microswitch failure. Not normal at all.

Thanks TMB for this info. Its just failed now after 156000 miles as still original lock....typical as just put  the new  trims back on door switch and grab handle .... Might just leave it until it causes more faults ??

It won't cause any more faults. The switch in question only controls the things mentioned in this thread.

And no probs :)

So would the fault be in the drivers rear door for the boot issue ? And the front one for the alarm and auto locking?  Or the drivers side front one causing all these systems now and the faults. If i leave it is there a good chance i be locked out from the drivers door as it sounds like its on it way and well worn out??

Thanks TMB .  Might put up with it for a while until i want to sort it then  or leave it .

No it's all caused by the drivers front door switch. Mine used to have all the faults you describe and is now perfect after switch renewal. Be careful not to leave your keys in the car

Thanks , very true. Thats my fear leaving the keys in the car then i be screwed. Odd it doesnt do it when keys in ignition .

I leave it for now and change the whole lock later when i am in the mood i think as not in the mood to mess about taking door card etc off at the minute and door handle .

Thanks for info....

No worries.

It won't do it with the keys in the ignition because that does the same thing as the microswitch and tells the electronics that the car has been opened.
