Engine Bay Lighting

Featured Replies

Does anyone know where i can get some LED's that can be mounted in the engine bay area. Have looked for ages but can't find anything suitable. Any suggestions appreciated.

Hope you don't mind me asking. Why?

Robbo, it is obvious why he wants neons for his engine bay. IF it looks good and shiny with custom hoses etc, I would do the same thing.

:iagree:

Now the focus of attention in my car has been diverted from the ICE in the back to the LUMP in the front, if I get much shined up, I'll be after something to light up the engine bay from below, or the sides. :) Will be great for shows at night.

Those dreadful led washer jets you see on every **** bucket work well under the bonnet i hear ;)

Have you heard how they're wired up perchance? ;) Trying to think of the safest possible way of wiring up some things. Heard of the best places to put them / point them? For a friend obviously. ;)

What about the 'white' LED ropes that take a 12v supply in from one end and are all sealed in what is effectively a clear hose pipe?

Throw the mains adapter, take a 12v feed (fused) from the batt and put a switch on it. The rope could be routed around the engine bay and is totally sealed so no risk of any water problems.

Maplins do small clusters of 4LEDs in little lenses on a string spaced about every 12". 8 Clusters per string.

I totally agree. Each to their own. Don't you want opinions? IMO this use of neons is totally naf and cannot be taken seriously. If you want to fit them, go ahead but dont suggest that I should not post if I dont like them

it's got to be xmas tree lights, surely! the LED ones that our tree has have 8 different programs (slow fade, annoying flash, epilepsy etc) and work off a wallwart power supply so you could feed them off 12v if you were tasteless enough! extra points for xmas fairy prominently displayed (mercedes bonnet star stylee?)

Ok, think that drifted off towards the end. Thanks for the help.

Robbo and landwomble, thank you for your opinions, my wife agrees with you. If either of you stumble across a xmas tree fairy that i could sit on top of my DV, let me know. Can't beat a bit of class.

Robbo, in answer to you first post, it isn't so much a case of why its more of how. I am married with two children finding things to do that keep me out of the house for 30mins or more is well worth looking stupid for. I can't think of anything else to do. If you can think of a challenge that no one else has tried or done let me know. Might keep me sane.

Take care.

M:) :) :)

What colour you going for? I got blue neons in the boot of my Fabia where my boom box is, and I used to have green neons under the car, but had them removed.

Seriously pimped (not ch@@ved, pimped) cars look great with lighting.

I have blue interior lights, blue boot light and blue amp surrounds. So will probably go for blue in the engine bay. I like it cause it looks different. I have put to 2 x 12" neon tubes in the back as there is no rear light. Am putting a light in each foot well. I have cabled them so they only come on when a door/boot is open or if car is unlocked.

It started of as a "what can i do that involves running wire round my car" and got a little out of hand. lol.

Would have if you spelt it differently.

Can't you chopper it over, with the furby on a winch underneath? :D Plenty of sand to land on there you know. :)
