My Fabia 2008 1.4 TDi is due for a service.

Can someone tell me if it's a chain or a belt please and how do I find out before taking it for a service as some parts of the service is missing.

I have a Fabia 2009 1.4 diesel which is cam belt, so I would assume yours is the same. It is recommended that the water pump is replaced at the same time as the belt, if it is time to change it as it is almost the same job and the pump may well be past its best by the time the belt is changed, unless you are being cautious and doing it very early. The pump, if purchased by yourself as a kit, will not be considerably much more then the timing kit without the pump but main dealers will most likely be dearer then places such as Eurocarparts etc. Go to a reputable VW/Audi/Skoda specialist and you will save a few quid but be wary of the back street fixer-they may not be familiar with your car!

In months or years, someone said recently that up to 2008 4 years - 2009 onwards 5 years. I can't comment on the mileage as I tend to run below average mileage on my cars.

Not sure what area of London you are at or near but otherwise, I'd recommend   Stevens Motors on 020 8989 9809 

 

They are based five mins from the Green Man roundabout on the A12, in Wanstead E11.

I had them do my cabin fan a few summers back.

 

Both I would dentist to do many tasks as they are quite knowledgable and have a few contacts for the unforeseen issues they might struggle with. Not overly cheap but lower prices then official Skoda networks./ Otherwise it'll be Transcity Skoda, in Hoe Street Walthamstow, if you want full, main dealer work. (Preston, Forest gate, is no longer there, unfortunately).
