Rear door handle removal

Featured Replies

I'm trying to remove the rear part of the rear right hand side door handle on my 2008 Fabia. The Haynes manual says that when you remove the small rubber cap at rear edge of door, you then need to use special hook tool to release locking clamp. But I found youtube video (but for Mk 1 Fabia) 2003 Skoda Fabia Rear Door Not Opening which says there's a T20 torx behind the cap which is what I found on removal. The video says to turn out the screw 3x, and then prise out the rear part.

I've undone screw a few turns (terrified of it coming out and disappearing!), but all I could remove was the painted cover of the rear handle. Has anyone pulled out the section of handle it covers? I'm struggling to get it to pull out, but I don't want to loosen that screw any more in case screw comes out completely. What's the trick I'm missing here?

Thanks a lot!

PS I didn't create those scratches - looks like previous owner was on same mission at one time

Just to close this one, I managed to replace the lock (original was intermittent but mostly failing to respond to lock/unlock signals). A perfect used one was only £18 on eBay. The Torx 20 screw visible under grommet in fact has to be loosened about ten turns to release the rear part of outer handle. Gleaned this from odd YouTube videos sorting VAG locks/handles!

With the cables unhooked from inside and outside handles, and the two big Torx 30 screws holding lock in unscrewed, it’s easy to remove the old lock just by peeling away one side of the foam membrane seal from the door panel.

Most of the clips in door card ended up staying in the door and/or tops featuring, but replacements on eBay again only about 25p each so will replace card when they arrive. Meantime it’s nice to have a reliably working rear door lock, and I needn’t worry about next MOT where a door which can’t open from outside would be instant fail.
