Front dome light when doors open

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm a fresh owner of a 2014 Octavia Greenline. The car's amazing, I have no complaints, but one question: when the doors are open and interior lights set to turn on with the doors only the back and front driverside (left one) is turned on. I was wondering if that's how it's supposed to be or is something wrong? All the lights work if I turn them on with respective buttons, and I've already taken off the whole light thing to clean it and haven't found anything weird. It's strange because we have had skodas for a long time in the family and I haven't noticed a problem like that in any of them.

Thanks for your answers!

Just checked mine. All the buttons are pushed in and the rocker switch in the front is 'flat'- as the normal setting. Three courtesy lights in the back and two in the front illuminate when the doors are opened. They time out when the doors are shut and go 'off' more promptly when the ignition is turned 'on' or the doors are locked again.

I don't have a front dome light btw- only two spot lights.

interesting. i have everything set the exact same way but only the left one lights up (see photos). If I turn them on with their switch it lights up normally, just not when the doors are open or if the switch is set to turn them both on. I guess the only thing wrong here would be the master(off, door, on) switch.

Also I don't know if mine are called dome lights, I just found it the best way to describe it (as in many videos regarding the interior lights).

I think the middle bulb is broken...

I don't have a middle bulb. I've already taken it all apart to clean it, because the transparent plastic was dirty and don't remember seeing a middle bulb (As far as I know there are three bulbs only in the back, or am I wrong?)

Mine does this sometimes, when the rear lights have been switched on or off (separate lights in rear due to panoramic sunroof). Afterwards weird stuff happens such as one of front reading/map lights not coming on with the doors opening but works fine if switched on individually. I have to switch the lights on and off individually and they start working normally again. There's no logic to it that I can find.

that's weird. I'll play around with turning them on and off, see if something changes, although I don't think it'll make a difference because all the lights have been turned on and off many times and nothing changed. Thanks for the tip though :)

I fixed it. After disassembling the whole light module a few times every once in a while, I narrowed the problem down to the right-hand light switch. I figured that somewhere inside there the switch doesn't make contact and prevents the light from turning on with the doors, but allows it to turn on by itself. So I disassembled the switch (everything is held together by plastic pins so you have to be careful, but it comes apart fairly easily), honed (is that the word?) the copper contacts a bit and bent them towards the side of the switch. Put it back together and lo and behold the light works! Sorry I don't have any pictures, because I was doing this over the course of a few months whenI had time. Anyway, just wanted to post an update, if anyone is having the same problem.
