Vague Service Intervals

Featured Replies

Why do VAG give so little information about when things such as air filter etc. have to be changed, I've looked in the service booklet & it is very vague about how often the oil should be changed & there is no mention of the air filter & fuel filter, I might be a little old fashioned but I like to know everything about a car & I don't trust a main dealer to do a service when all they do is change the oil & nothing else.

According to the sticker in the boot the service interval is QI6 which is flexible but from what I can work out by looking at the history provided by hayseldens the oil has been changed every 12 months, the car has done just over 16k miles & there's no mention of the fuel filter or air filter ever been changed in its life, I do between 10 & 11k miles a year which is a mixture of town & motorway driving so I'm not really sure how often the oil should be changed.

I would attempt to check the air filter myself but looks impossible to get the air filter box open as all the screws are facing downwards & would be difficult to get at even with a small stubby screwdriver.

Pay 1h access to erwin online and download a service guide for your wehicle. Everything is detailed in those documents. It is a pain to pay for access, but on the other hand you get a lot of info.

Might be the only option as there isn't a haynes manual available yet for the mk3 fabia

If the car is on Variable / Flexible servicing then maybe change the oil annually, so every 11,000 - 12,000 miles rather than by the service indicator.

You have long life oil, bit no need to wait to change the oil and filter.

The Air Filter is every 40,000 miles but maybe check it every year and change when needed /  dirty.

Pollen Filter is each 2 years, but maybe you want to do it annually.

Brake Fluid change schedule is first at 3 years then each 2.

Fuel Filter is a life fit but then maybe you want to change @ 3 years or 4 years.

?

Did your car need the Service Campaign (recall...) to change the Coolant & has it been done?

Thanks for that, I've only had the car for just over a week & wasn't aware of the cooling issue till recently & I wasn't informed by the dealer but I have noticed the cooling the fan seems to be running a lot but the engine temp has never gone above half way on the gauge so could there be a cooling issue, is the cooling system struggling to keep the temp down or is the fan playing up?
