Looks like something has gone very wrong!

Not trying to be funny or anything, but how the hell did you not notice the wrong screen the moment you got in the car...?

Has anyone actually found much benefit from this service? I've used the hot spot off the phone a few times but other than traffic, i can't really see a huge amount that i'd use it for. Maybe i'm missi

Groan.....

Waiting for the dealer to call me back, have sent them an email. My wife is currently on hold to Skoda UK customer services. Will keep you all updated!

To be honest, in the excitement of getting a new car,  i just missed it until today. (Only got the car late yesterday afternoon).

Another picture of the head unit

Not so good. It'll be interesting to hear what the dealer has to say.

So Skoda Uk Customer Service confirmed the car should have the Columbus system, installed as standard. Awaiting an email from them confirming this.  Customer Service advised that i need to contact the dealer to resolve the issue. The dealer has asked me to send them photos of the head unit and will get back to me...

Not sure how this is going to get sorted but hope that it is fixed quickly.

How on earth it managed to get out the factory or dealership like that is beyond me!

You can have the Columbus out of my Scout, I'd trade off a few features to have physical buttons back.

Skoda's desire to declutter the head unit by removing the knobs is a step back in terms of usability.

I was like that after a couple of weeks. After a couple of months, I wouldn't go back...

Think it's probably because I spent the first couple of weeks playing with all the stuff 'cos it was my new toy. Now I hardly touch the screen at all.

SO i have had a reply from the Dealer, apparently my car is a first edition Kodiaq, which uses an older version of the Columbus system which looks identical to the Amundsen. I am not overly convinced that this is the case.  I have measured the  screen on the Kodiaq and it comes in at 8" exactly the same as the Amundsen.

Did you view the car before taking delivery? I'm guessing you weren't made aware of it. My car, although Sportline, was registered after yours and it is the Columbus. I'm guessing yours must've been sitting for some time.

Maybe a good idea to start a new thread with regard to which have Amundsen and which Colombus??

So it’s an early 2017 car that wasn’t registered till June this year. I’d be asking where it’s been for 12+ months. Is it Arnold Clark ?

If that is the case I'd be straight back to the dealer with it!

How can they pass an early 2017 car off as middle of the year 2018?

Yes. It is Arnold Clark that got the car from.

I test drove the SEL at my local dealer (not Arnold Clark) the SEL we test drove was a 2018 registered car which had the Columbus system. We also viewed a 5seat Edition version at our local which was automatic.  However my local dealer did not have any available from stock with the spec we wanted (7seat Edition 2.0TDI manual).  I then called around a few other franchise and Arnold Clark had two preregiatered cars available in the Edition Spec 7 seat 2TDI manual. Apparently both cars were registered in June this year with less than 10miles on the clock.

We never viewed the car before the purchase beleaving it to be the same as the Edition we viewed at my local dealer.

At no time was it mentioned that the car was built sometime last year.

I would say that you should try to reject the car as it does not have the features expected of a 2018 model. I'd certainly go down that route.

Do you know if any other features are missing?

I suppose you need to take into consideration the deal you got and whether you prefer the 2017/2018 model.

Just from the photo's posted, you're missing Air Care too. Might not mean much to most, unless you suffer from hay-fever or other allergens etc...

My biggest concern here would be being sold a car built late-2016 / early 2017 and sold to me as brand new in mid-2018.

It shouldn't come as a surprise that cars are stock-piled for various reasons, but this car could be almost 2 years old!

As has already been mentioned, where has it been stood for 24 months? Undercover, in a field, on some salty docks? Just because a car hasn't been driven doesn't mean that it doesn't deteriorate, especially if it's been outside, open to the elements.

The most annoying thing is that if it wasn't for the head unit we'd be none the wiser.

Given the price paid, and what you know now, are you still happy? Not sure I would be.

A bit off topic but same rule applies.

My hubby and son went to buy drysuits for scuba diving.  They had last years model in stock for my hubby at a discounted price but my son had to order in this years obvisiously more expensive. The shop explained to my hubby the differences between last years and this years so he bought last years but he made an INFORMED decision. Both were brand new.

I would say it is up to the dealership to inform you that you were indeed not receiving the latest model. The registration date does not match with the model features.  If the dealership had explained this you could THEN have made an informed choice with regards to the purchase of the car.

So checking the car I dont have any "AirCare" symbol on the dash.

What was mentioned during the purchase of the car, it was at that point in time, wrapped in a protective wrapping in the compound. Indeed when we went to collect the car, their was still some white plastic sheet trapped between the boot and the body.

Completely agree,  during the conversation with the dealer at no point was the car mentioned to be a 2017 model.  The sales adviser even sent emailed a spec sheet for the car which details the 2018 spec (9.2" Columbus SatNav).  The last contact from the dealer was an email yesterday afternoon saying they are looking into it, but they have not returned any of my phones calls from yesterday (2 calls). I have been keeping a note of all communications with the dealer.  Skoda UK have opened a case, and awaiting a call back from the case manager.

As for the deal on the car, it was within the normal price range of other Editions. The only freebie on the deal was £15 worth of diesel. The reason for choosing the said dealer, they were the closest  that had the car available. (100miles away from home, better than the 200+miles for other Editions that were also available.)

After some consideration I have now emailed the dealer (manager and sales adviser) listing three possible course of action and expecting a firm reply from the dealer by the end of today. (01Aug2018)

1 Replace head unit with e correct one and some form of compensation.

2 Swap car for the correct model and specs (2018 Edition), and similar millage (10miles when we bought the car)

2 We reject the car.

1 - I could be wrong, but I'm sure previous discussions about this have led to the conclusion that it is not possible... but that's DIY rather than by a dealer.

2 - Given the rarity of available cars right now, I wouldn't hold your breath on this option.

3 - This, unfortunately, is probably going to be the most likely outcome of the three.

Whatever happens, please don't let this put you off Skoda and the Kodiaq - the bear is a fantastic car, and it is such a shame that some people have had their experiences ruined by hapless or unscrupulous dealers.

I would ask for everything in writing. So far they haven't proven to be the most trusting. You are doing the right thing by giving them set dates to reply by.  Including the spec for 2018 suggests to me they were trying to pull a fly one but this obvisiously makes your case stronger for rejection as the car delivered does not meet the description.  I'd probably give the Motor Ombudsman a call to set out your rights. They can also deal with it on your behalf. I've had to involve them before when the leather on the drivers seat started peeling on my Mercedes. Dealership refused to sort it under warranty as I had been driving the car wearing jeans. I only wore jeans at the weekend but at no point did anyone tell me this would be an issue.  The car was less than a year old and covered about 9000 miles.  Despite going back and forth for over 6 weeks it was only when I contacted the Motor Ombudsman did they then change their mind and the car was booked in immediately.

Latest update. Phone call from the dealer this evening we can either reject the car or accept a goodwill offer of £1000.  I am thinking of rejecting the car so will call the customer service department tomorrow to arrange.

Must be the shortest owner ship of a Kodiaq in history.

Good result, should you wish to either find another stock car or order a factory build you should be able to negotiate a significant discount.

Did the dealer make any attempt to apologise, or at least explain what the car has been doing for the last 18-24 months?

Once this is over please post the registration number, so that we might be able to warn future potential victims of this unscrupulous dealers activities, they'll be sure to try it again with the same car.

Good outcome! Like you I would go down the rejection route. What a terrible experience. I would definitely think twice about ordering from that dealership.

That dealer needs a serious word from Skoda, there is no way that, that sort of short of underhand activity should be allowed.

I think, if you do consider the cash, of £1000.00 it is a poor offer anyway. Which brings you back to rejection.
